1858 Liberty Seated Half Dime. NGC graded MS-64. Nice blue and gold toning. Early half dimes like this, because of their small size, are sometimes treated as second-raters compared to the larger seated Liberty sizes. It'ssuch a shame since this coin is nice and attractive. We feel it belongs in a worthwhile set of early American silver (PCGS # 4367) .

1838. Large stars. PCGS graded MS-62. Nicely toned and well struck. An attractive, lustrous example of this first year issue. The seated figure of Liberty carries over from the No Stars type of 1837-38, with the addition of 13 stars around to keep it consistent with other silver coin denominations. The mint in those days prided itself on consistency, whether that be the copper issues, the silver coins, or the look of America's gold denominations (PCGS # 4568) .

1939 Mercury Dime. PCGS graded MS-68. White example. The silvery hue reciprocates between levels of frost and satin-texture. Lustrous and well struck with rocking-fresh surfaces, hence the impressive '68' grade. Both the peripheries and the central reverse are detailed and close to 100% crisp for their sharpness of strike, with only the crossbands not up to snuff, which is a forceful reminder in a coin from this mint that it is quality that counts. 1942 Mercury Dime. PCGS graded Proof 67. Rainbow toning around the borders. A rollicking toned gem with lovely pastels over top quality surface preservation. Nicely struck, though not fully so-still, since Mercury dimes often had to be repolished during the striking of Proofs. Each time this was done, some of the tiny design elements disappeared from the die. Notice the broken leaves that are no longer connected to their supporting stem on the reverse, and seen on most Proof dimes from 1936 to 1942. Yet, the strike of the present coin easily rivals that of the plate coin in the Lange reference (PCGS # 5077) .
