Byzantine Empire. Justin II, 565-578 AD. Gold Solidus (4.43 g), Constantinople mint. Helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding Victory on globus. Reverse: Constantinople enthroned facing, head right, holding spear and globus cruciger. SBC 345. Perhaps uncertain Western mint: perfectly centered on large, spread flan, with thick annular borders, with both sides, and especially the obverse, showing die rust. Choice Very Fine.

SBC 1463; D.O. 2b. Coin with little actual wear, but probably sea salvage -- with slight deposits, some cleaning scratches, and wavy flan. Plus two other gold coins, their condition averaging FINE. Justinian I, Solidus: Facing military bust / Angel facing (SBC 140). Michael VII, Histamenon Nomisma (clipped): Christ enthroned facing / Michael facing (SBC 1869). Lot of 3 coins.
