  Judea. "Widow's Mite" Lot. Good commercial lot. Assorted group of various Hasmonean Lepton / Prutah types, not always distinguishable. With planchet sizes ranging from 9 to 14 mm. Plus 8 Prutahs of John Hyrcanus I, 134 - 104 BC., the son of Simon the Maccabee and nephew of the folk hero Judah Maccabee: Inscription in wreath / Twin cornucopiae (Henedin 452). Close inspection suggested, as surfaces, metal, and patinas vary. Lot of 106 coins. Coins range from Fair to Choice Very Fine.

Persis Kingdom. Autophradates (Vadfradad), c. early 2nd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.43 g). Rare. Mustached head right, wearing diadem and satrapal cap. Reverse: King stands at left of fire temple, a standard on the right, a winged half-figure of Ahura-Mazda above; legend around. Cf. Alram 542 (Type 1/4). Reverse a little rough, but obverse with memorable portrait in very high relief! Toned. Choice Very Fine / about Very Fine.

Persis Kingdom. Autophradates (Vadfradad) III, c. 2nd century BC. Fourré Drachm (2.24). Draped and diademed bust right. Reverse: King sacrificing at fire altar containing Ahura Mazda, at right eagle-topped standard(?); inscription below. Cf. Alram 561; cf. BMC p. 213, 7. Flaking and chipping along the edge has exposed the copper core. Most interesting and rare. This the first fourré we have encountered for this series. The portrait compares well with official issues, while the legend on the reverse seems a bit blundered. Very Fine.

Sasanian Kingdom. Ardashir I, as King Artaxerxes (Ardaxsir) V of Persis, c. 205/6-223/4 AD. Very Rare. AR Drachm (3.62 g), mint A ("Stakhr"). Phase 1 (circa 205/6-224 AD). Bearded facing head, wearing diadem and Parthian-style tiara with pellet-in-crescent; "The divine Ardaxir, king" in Pahlavi. Reverse: Bearded head of Papak left, wearing diadem and Parthian-style tiara with star-in-crescent; "Son of the divinity Papak, king" in Pahlavi. SNS Type I(1) / I(1), 1; Göbl I/1; Paruck 4; De Morgan pl. XXXIV, 18; Alram 657; MACW 755; and cf. especially Triton VIII (1-11-05) lot no. 694, for same obverse die, but there severely degraded. Noticeable die break along left of obverse. Nevertheless the devices are sharp and bold. The legends on this issue look a little blundered. Deeply toned, with underlying luster. Superb Extremely Fine.

Ptolemaic Egypt. Arsinõe II (d. 270 BC.), wife of Ptolemy II Philadelphos, 285-246 BC. AR Dekadrachm (33.69 g), Alexandria mint, struck c. 253-246 BC. Diademed and veiled head right, lotus scepter at shoulder and behind head; at left Θ. Reverse: Twin cornucopiae bound by fillet. Svoronos 943; cf. BMC p. 43, 15 (different control letter). Smoothing to fields, with resultant tooling in areas. Otherwise very decent metal. Lightly toned. A good "hole filler" of this rare and impressive coinage. Sharpness of Fine.
