Attica. Athens. c. 449-420 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.97 g). Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet. Reverse: Owl right, olive sprig and crescent behind. SNG Cop. 34; Dewing 1597. Sharp full strike, with a good portion of crest showing. Reverse with even, lightly granular metal, only slightly so on obverse. Pleasing light to medium toning. Extremely Fine.

  Attica. Athens. 4th & 2nd centuries BC. Lot of two AR Tetradrachms. Both are standard types. Earliest, 4th century BC., a later version of the classic type (Svoronos pl. 19). Other, a New Tetradrachm, c. 154/153 BC., of usual type -- with two monograms and caps of the Dioscuroi (Thompson 61a). First fully struck, on good metal. Second, obverse a little softly struck; metal lightly porous. Lot of 2 coins. Both Very Fine plus.

Oldest, c. 345-307 BC., Athena right, bucranium and N behind (SNG Cop. 124). Other, Athena left, c. 315-310 BC., ΔI with figure of Athena to right (SNG Cop. 97). Pontic Kingdom. Mithradates VI, the "Great", 120- 63 BC. Gold Stater (8.53 g). Kallatis mint, struck c. 88-86 BC., during the First Mithradatic War. Head of deified Alexander the Great right, with horn of Ammon. Reverse: Athena Nikephoros enthroned left; KAΛ on throne, CW below elbow; trident in exergue. De Callatay p. 140 (same obverse die: D6); cf., SNG Cop 1089 var. (different monogram). Nicely centered and fully struck, the obverse from usual worn, somewhat rusty die. Sharp for issue, and very lustrous. Extremely Fine.

Well centered and crisply struck. With some reddish-brown toning. A very fine and attractive example of this archaic rarity. Only 2 examples listed by Bodenstedt, although another in Peus 373 (10-30-02), lot 521, plus one more recently at Tkalec, Auk. 2005, lot 76. Choice Extremely Fine.
