The mint mark tun signifies that this magnificent coin was struck in the early 1590's, just a few years after the Spanish Armada. Superb condition, fully round and struck in a large flan. A combination of a rare mint mark and top quality make this a irreplaceable rarity. NGC graded AU-55.

Reverse: Large ship with upturned castles, bearing shield and cross, E and rose at sides, mint mark escallop. the Elizabethan Angel is one of the rarer varieties and is seldom encountered in high grade. The quality of this piece is exceptional and we can rank it among the finest pieces which have ever appeared in the marketplace. Beautifully round, it is free from defects, sharply struck on the lettering, and the portrait of St. Michael is unusually detailed. NGC graded AU-55.

Reverse: Crowned thistle. The Thistle Crown is normally a poorly struck coin, whereas this marvelous specimen is so bold that all the cross-hatches of the thistle may be discerned. Extremely rare this nice, and unusually pleasing! In fact, the finest we have seen. NGC graded MS-62.

Great Britain. Rose-ryal, ND. S.2613. James I, 1603-1625. Second coinage. King enthroned holding orb and sceptre, with portcullis at his feet. Reverse: Square topped shield in center of elaborate Tudor rose, pellet stops and mint mark escallop both sides. This coin is more common in low grade (Fine to Very Fine) than the slightly smaller and more ornate James I third coinage rose ryal. But in high grade this second coinage piece is rarer. Surprisingly evenly struck on a large full flan, it shows no signs of the creasing, damage and weakness associated with this issue. Sharply detailed and with a good portrait, it is as nice as any example offered in recent years. NGC graded AU-55.

Great Britain. Unite, ND. S.2694. Charles I, 1625-1649. Sixth bust. Mint mark, Triangle within circle, both sides. King with pointed beard (Briot-style bust) and large lace collar. Reverse: Crown over oval shield dividing crowned 'CR'. Slightly double struck on the (XX) mark of value and the Charles's crown, but this is an exceptionally high grade example of what is usually a crudely struck coin, produced around 1642, just as the English Civil War was starting. The portrait is very well struck and detailed, and there is a great deal of original mint luster remaining. This coin is as fine an example of this variety as we have seen in many years. NGC graded AU-55.

Reverse: Declaration: RELIG.PROT.LEG.ANGL.LIBER.PAR in three lines on a continuous scroll, three Oxford plumes above, 1643 below. this is a superb example of what is normally a crudely made coin struck during the ravages of the English Civil War. The flan is much larger than is normal, and the overall detail is stronger than on any other example we have ever seen. This was certainly a specially produced coin or presentation piece. Simple stunning and Very Rare. NGC graded AU-55.

Great Britain. 1739 Gold Locket, from a Gold 2 Guinea of George II. Handsome jewelry accessory, the gold coin forming the lid of the fairly thick locket. The lower half of the piece fashioned from slightly different colored gold, with sides and back richly engraved with compact floral arabesque of acanthus leaves. Within, one of the silver-lined glass covers remains. Minor old repair to one side of the hinge. Workmanship appears to be late 18th century. A very interesting artifact.
