Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 2718
Great Britain. Proof crown, 1839. S.3882; ESC-279; KM-741. Victoria. Young head. Plain edge. As issued in the sets and a beautiful example indeed: deep purplish gold iridescent toning, glittering mirror fields, subtle but pleasant frosted portrait. Very choice, tightly graded. Very rare as only about 300 were minted, and few have survived this fine. NGC graded Proof 63.
Estimated Value $7,500 - 9,000.
The Cheshire Collection.

Lot 2719
Great Britain. Silver Crown, 1844. Victoria Young Head. S-3882. "Cinquefoil" edge stops (not viewable in the slab). A bit sharper in its smallest details than the "Star" piece, but also a lovely Uncirculated coin. Elegant medium gray toning with some blue iridescence. Pleasing "hard" luster under the color. Smooth surfaces generally, without any big marks. An "old cabinet" piece of considerable charm for the grade. NGC graded MS-63.
Estimated Value $2,750 - 3,250.

Lot 2720
Great Britain. Silver Crown, 1844. Victoria Young Head. S-3882. "Star" edge stops (not viewable in the slab). It's tempting to call this pleasing coin Choice, for all its marks are just tiny ones. The luster is luscious, "fresh" and bright. Silvery color with a hint of golden hues. Some of the smallest details in the design are not struck up, but overall the impression here is of a sharp, well-made coin. Rare grade. Only a minuscule percentage of the total existing number of Young Head crowns are truly Uncirculated, as this coin decidedly is. NGC graded MS-62.
Estimated Value $2,650 - 3,000.

Lot 2721
Great Britain. Silver Crown, 1845. Victoria Young Head. S-3882. "Cinquefoil" edge stops (not viewable in the slab). Lots of tiny marks and a couple of sizable chatter-marks on the queen's neck. A bit soft in strike here and there, including the date, which is typical for an 1845. The shield, however, is quite well detailed. Booming luster but a "dipped" piece with some water-marks and other minor surface impurities. Rare. NGC graded MS-61.
Estimated Value $2,800 - 3,300.

Lot 2722
Great Britain. Crown, 1847. S.3882; ESC-286; Dav-105; KM-741. Victoria Young head. The 1847 Young Head Crown is a deceptively rare date in high grade, and much rarer than the Gothic Crown of the same year in mint state. The Gothic was never really intended for circulation, but the Young Head crowns are normally well worn when seen on dealers list or in auction catalogues. This is a superb, well struck specimen with light golden tone. NGC graded MS-63.
Estimated Value $2,800 - 3,200.

Lot 2723
Great Britain. Rare variety Gothic Crown, 1847. S.3883 variety; ESC-288 var; Dav-106; KM-744. Victoria. Lettered Edge, "Un Decimo". Proof with reverse upright. A trial or presentation piece with the edge inscription between two bevelled borders, which unfortunately cannot be viewed in the thick slab. A most unusual and excessively rare coin. Maybe Unique. Although it has a lettered edge, this coin has the same reverse die axis as the plain edge Proof (see next lot) and not the die axis of the other lettered edge coin (see previous lot). This makes it a fascinating hybrid. Beautifully toned and an exquisite rarity. A few faint hairlines under the wonderful color, and a minute line on the queen's face, but this coin is no "64" in the cataloguer's humble opinion. Gem Proof. NGC graded Proof 64.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 9,000.

Lot 2724
Great Britain. Gothic Crown, 1847. S.3883; ESC-291; KM-744. Victoria. Plain edge. Exquisite iridescent toning with near perfect mirror surfaces. A grade of Proof 63 seems a bit conservative. NGC graded Proof 63.
Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,500.

Lot 2725
Great Britain. Gothic Crown, 1847. S.3883; ESC-288; Dav-106; KM-744. Edge, Un Decimo. Victoria. Reverse inverted. Harshly graded, for it surely looks choice. Reflective fields with moderate hairlines under pleasant gray toning. The cataloguer has seen a number of worse Gothics in PR63 NGC slabs. NGC graded Proof 62.
Estimated Value $2,600 - 3,000.
The Cheshire Collection.
