1849-C $1 Gold Liberty. Closed wreath. NGC graded AU-58. This is quite a pleasant example of a very rare coin. There is just the slightest softness in the hair curls above the ear, otherwise very nicely struck. The reverse is sharp with a bold mintmark and the overall color is medium yellow gold with some attractive old russet toning. The recorded mintage of 11,634 includes both the open and closed wreath varieties. Breen-6008, "Usually VF or worse; prohibitively rare choice." Pop 17 with 23 finer.

1879 $1 Gold Indian. NGC graded MS-62 Prooflike. Sharply struck with all details in the coronet and feathers discernable. Bright yellow gold prooflike fields add contrast to the design details. A small area of die bulging below the bust perhaps owing to a die beginning to fail also provides interest. Contact marks are minimal and well within the grade requirements. Low mintage of 3030 pieces. Pop 1 and the only P-L specimen graded thus far! (PCGS # 7580) .

1880 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded MS-67 P.Q. A delightful little jewel sparkling with "freshness." This pristine gem is well struck with intense satiny mint luster that is absolutely astounding. A Premium Quality coin and as close to perfection as one will likely see. Only 1636 were minted. PCGS reports 94 with 21 in MS-68 and 1 in MS-69. We suspect that the 94 reported in this grade represents multi submissions for the same coin (PCGS # 7581) .

A scarce low mintage date of which a 125 proofs were struck. PCGS reports only 3 in this grade with 1 in PR-65 Cameo and 1 in PR-66 Cameo (PCGS # 87632) .
