Lot 560
1896 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo Star. There are a number of difficult to imagine aspects relative to this coin. How could the mint's 19th century personnel produce such a perfect product? And how could it possibly have survived 109 years of existence in such a perfect state of preservation? But they did, and it did, and now how to describe it adqequately? Our photographs will give the catalog reader some idea as the coin immediately jumps out at the viewer as something quite special, a cut above even superb gem proof coins. It demands to be admired again and again.

The strike is perfect with deeply frosted devices which seem suspended above the black liquid like fields which are also flawless. Perfect, flawless, you get the idea. We can repeat those comments, but this unbelieveable specimen will speak for itself. For 1896, 762 proof strikings were produced. This amazing coin with a population of 1 is not only the finest 1896. It is the finest graded Morgan dollar ever graded at either PCGS or NGC, sharing that honor with two other coins dated 1885 and 1890. For the Morgan dollar specialist or anyone who desires the best of the best, this is your opportunity to attain it. Good luck to you all!
Estimated Value $40,000 - 50,000.

1901 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded Proof 66. This glittering white Gem Proof is one of only 813 struck for this year. During this period, the mint used an overall brilliant finish in the manufacturing process, making frosted pieces quite unusual. Here offered is a lovely specimen, superbly struck with beautiful surfaces and no detracting features. It is undoubtedly a nearly invisible hairline or two away from a higher grade. No matter, the new owner will be happy with it just the way it is…very, very nice indeed. Pop 24 with 14 finer.

1901 Morgan Dollar Proof. NGC graded Proof 65. This is a bright white coin, sharply struck and attractive. We note just a few very tiny hairlines in the fields and for diagnostic purposes, we'll mention a little lint impression before the nose. Only 813 proof strikings for this year and as so many were mis-handled, it is certainly rare this nice. Pop 33 with 38 finer.
