Perkins, Carl (1933-1998) Pioneer of rockabilly music; songwriter whose most famous song was "Blue Suede Shoes." Document Signed, Nashville, Tennessee, April 6, 1964, 1p. folio. A contract between Perkins and Cedarwood Publishing Co., Inc. regarding a song Perkins wrote called "Big Bad Blues." Perkins signed in blue ink. Perkins' recording of "Blue Suede Shoes" was the first record to top the pop, country, and rhythm and blues charts. The song became one of Elvis Presley's first hits. Perkins was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Presley, Elvis (1935-1977) Singer; actor; the "King of Rock 'n Roll." Vintage Original Document Signed by Elvis and 26 other members of the cast and crew of the 1968 film, Live A Little, Love A Little, 1 p. (front and back), 12¼ x 9 in. The movie was directed by Norman Taurog (one of 9 Elvis movies he directed); it started March 11, 1968 and finished May 2, 1968. Elvis' friend and bodyguard, Joe Esposito, signed on the back. Light toning, else fine.

Price, Vincent L. Jr (1911-1993) Famous horror actor. Check Signed, Beverly Hills, California, February 9, 1973. Made payable to Charlie Chaplin, with a notation in Price's hand, "Lecture Tour Fee." Some bank marks, not affecting signature. It is rare to find anything between two major celebrities. A great association piece.

Reeves, George (1914-1959) Star of the 1950s television series, "The Adventures of Superman." Photograph Signed, n.p., n.d., 9¼ x 7 3/8 in. A portrait of Reeves in his Superman costume holding a field radio and looking to his right. Reeves was the original TV Superman. Information that comes with this photo states that it is from the Abe Roth Collection and that Roth got the photo from public relations man, Phil Paladino, in the mid 1980s. Paladino had received the photo at a public relations cocktail party at the Yamashiru restaurant (in the Hollywood Hills) in the fall of 1957. ABC executives were celebrating because the network was going to re-run the syndicated series. A rare photo.

Romberg, Sigmund (1887-1951) Composer of music for operettas. Typed Document Signed, New York City, December 4, 1937, 2pp, folio. Regarding the rights of the musical Rosalie, which have been purchased by MGM. George Gershwin and Romberg are noted as composing the music, and Ira Gershwin and P.G. Wodehouse as writing the lyrics; William Anthony McGuire and Guy Bolton wrote the book. Fine.

Roth, Lillian (1910-1980) Vocalist and actress. 14 x 11 inch Photograph Signed and Inscribed, "Happy Tomorrows / Lillian Roth / Sept 6 - 56," in gold ink at lower left. In 1956, Roth's autobiography, I'll Cry Tomorrow was adapted by MGM into a movie starring Rita Hayward, who received an Oscar nomination. The best ever photograph of Roth.

(3) A second page from the same paper with a note on an ad for (Mayor) Tom Bradley with a picture of Ted Kennedy, "What ever happened to H.H.? F." (4) A Typed Letter Signed in type, "Comrade Francis Albert," (Brazil), August 1981, 1 p. wishing Jay Kennedy a happy 70th birthday. (5) A note from Frank's wife Joan to Jay Kennedy. Swanson, Gloria (1897-1983) Star of silent films; best remembered for her role as the faded star, Norma Desmond, in the 1950 film Sunset Boulevard. Two beautiful 13 x 10 in. Photographs Signed and Inscribed "To Winnie and Warner / Affectionately / Gloria"; one adds the date, "1936." The youthful head-and-shoulders portrait, c. 1920s, is by Clarence Sinclair Bull; stamped on the back with embossed stamp at front lower right. Minor chipping at lower edge. The other photograph, in a draped gown, is by Hal Phyfe, who signed in the plate and his stamp is on the verso; slight waviness at lower right. Two beautiful, early, signed portraits of Miss Swanson.

(Swanson, Gloria) (1897-1983) Star of silent films. One of the great screen personalities, she received three Academy Award nominations. Two original vintage photographs, one 13 x 9¼ in. and the other 14 x 11 in., both c. 1920s, by Edwin Bower Hesser. Photographer's stamp is on verso of both. One has been trimmed at right margin, not affecting the image; it has a faint spot at lower right, and some minor edge soiling; the other has very minor edge blemishes and slight silvering on image. Two dramatic poses. These photos have been in storage for 40+ years, since Hesser's death.

Valentino, Rudolph (1895-1926) Silent screen heart throb. Sentiment in Italian and Signature boldly written in black ink on a 3 x 4½ in. piece of paper and elaborately matted with a romantic image of Valentino and a plaque; framed to an overall size of 33¼ x 19¼ in. A few nicks to back edges of frame, else fine and ready to display. Valentino became a legend after he died of acute appendicitis.

Valentino, Rudolph - Signed Self Portrait (1895-1926) Silent-screen legend who died of acute appendicitis at the age of 31. Pencil and Charcoal Self Portrait Signed by Valentino, no date, 19 x 16 inches. The sultry-eyed Valentino drew himself dressed in a soft white jacket and cravat, and signed in pencil at lower right. The large signature measures almost six inches. There are a few small scratches on Valentino's face and in the upper background, which can be retouched, and a dampstain in the upper right corner, not affecting the image. Housed in a 25 x 23 inch wooden frame. An extremely rare Valentino memento.

Hurrell's stamp is on the verso, along with a stamped letter dated September 30, 1980, from Hurrell to Allan Rich, saying that Hurrell is counting on Rich to "pass judgement [sic] on any prints that turn up in the market place." A wonderful display photo.

Woolley" as First Lieutenant of Military Intelligence, on War Department / Office of the Chief of Staff letterhead, Paris, January 25, 1919, 1p, quarto. Written to his commanding officer, requesting permission to return to America, now that the war is over. "I desire to return to the United States in order to resume my former occupation, which has been abandoned since the beginning of the Mexican trouble in 1916…." His former occupation was teaching English and journalism; he came to acting later. A significant Monty Woolley letter.
