Platoon. Before 1986, the Vietnam War carried with it an aura of frustration and shame. Opinions on the "military conflict" will always be vast and heated, but thanks to a gritty film, by a then unknown film maker, respect and honor was given to those who deserved it most--the ones who fought and died in it. The motion picture Platoon, starring Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Willam Dafoe and directed by Oliver Stone, won the 1986 Academy Award for Best Picture. The commercial and critical success of the film subsequently spawned numerous Vietnam War films, thus further continuing a new found sense of compassion for Vietnam Veterans.

Star Trek & The Next Generation: Audio Tapes. "Space… the final frontier. These are the Voyages of the starship Enterprise. It's five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations -- to boldly go where no man has gone before."

On September 8, 1966, those now-familiar words first introduced an entire generation of television viewers to STAR TREK. Over the course of its three-year network run, the show developed a fan following unprecedented in the entertainment history -- a following that is still growing with the release of each new STAR TREK motion picture.

Much of the show's appeal came from its blueprint for the future -- a future where man had put aside his differences to reach the stars. STAR TREK gave us a Russian and a American working side-by-side, television's first interracial kiss, the name for America's first space shuttle -- Enterprise -- and a host of unforgettable characters: the unflappable Captain Kirk, his half-human science officer Spock, the irascible Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, and ever-resourceful engineer Montgomery Scott, to name a few. Fifteen Cassettes. Ten Star Trek tapes dramatizing seven novels and three of the feature films with dramatic readings by Leonard Nimoy and George Takei, enhanced sound effects and an original score.

The five The Next Generation cassettes also feature dramatic readings, special effects and original scores. Entire collection in original packaging. Very Good.

The Godfather III. In the early 1970's, Francis Ford Coppola, with his Academy Award winning film, The Godfather, introduced the world to the Corleones. They instantly became the quintessential Mafia family, in what would become cinema's quintessential Mafia film. The saga would conclude almost 20 years later with The Godfather, Part III. Five Typed Contracts Signed:

A.) "Andy Garcia". Three pages, Quarto, n.p., September 29, 1989. The document addresses various issues of Garcia's employment, including salary, screen credit and advertising. The initialed sections deal with Gracia's credit position, agreed to be, "no less than fifth position of the entire cast" (provided Robert Duvall sign on… he didn't), and in "the size of type used to display the largest credit accorded to any other performer in the Picture in paid ads." Stapled twice in upper left.

B.)"Diane Keaton". Nine pages, Quarto, Beverly Hills, July 28, 1989. The document outlines such pertinent issues as Keaton's start date, compensation, screen credit and wardrobe. Stapled at the upper left corner.

C.) "Al Pacino". Two pages, Quarto, n.p., October 11, 1989. Here, Pacino secures his $5,000,000.00 salary, to be paid in weekly sums of $277,000.00. Stapled at the upper left.

D.) "Winona Ryder". Two pages, Quarto, n.p., July 28, 1989. With this document, Zoetrope Italia agrees, as producers, to pay Ryder a total of $375,000.00 for her services as a performer in The Godfather III, at a rate of $37,500 per week. Slightly torn at the upper left, where a staple once was.

E.) "Talia Shire". Five pages, Quarto, terms regarding her reprise of the role of Connie, Michael Corleone's sister, including start date, compensation, screen credit, advertising credit and even sex scenes. Very Good.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.
A unique piece in its own right, but even more so by the fact that Winona Ryder later became gravely ill and was unable to appear in the film.
