U.S. Morgan Dollars 1887-1893

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1998
1893 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. All of the 1893 Morgan issues are scarce to rare (like the 1893-S), this Philadelphia issue being the most obtainable. With that said, this 1893 dollar in near-gem condition is scarce and desirable. The surfaces are quite clean and were it not a light, vertical hairline scratch on the cheek, this coin could be considered "PQ". Housed in an old PCGS green label holder (PCGS # 7220) .
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,350.

Lot 2000
1893-CC Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ. A white and lustrous example of this scarce Carson City issue. Only 677,000 silver dollars were produced this year bearing the "CC" mintmark and the 1893-CC is considered a "key" date from Carson City. Typically found with strike weakness in the hair above the ear and on the eagle's breast feathers but we point out that this specimen has strong strike detail above the ear and only minimal weakness on the reverse breast feathers. Gem examples are virtually unknown and this choice example is sure to receive fierce bidding. Housed in an old PCGS green label, fat letter holder. PCGS population of 674 in MS-63, 323 in MS-64 and only 7 in MS-65 (PCGS # 7222) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

Lot 2001
1893-CC Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63. A well struck frosty white specimen with original surfaces on this final and elusive issue from Carson City. A mintage of only 677,000 was produced this year, a low figure that is larger only than the '80, '81, '85 and '89 Carson City issues. This coin boasts strong hair detail that has locked in original mint luster. Only the very slightest weakness of strike can be observed on the curl above the ear. Lovely eye appeal further adds to this coin's desirability (PCGS # 7222) .

1893-O Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-61 PQ. The 1893-O is often seen with a wide range with regards to strike weakness. Fully struck and prooflike examples are not commonly found. This frosty and lustrous example has above average strike with only minimal weakness above the ear and on the eagle's breast. The surfaces are very clean, the coin is predominantly white and we could see this coin being a point higher gradewise. Housed in an old PCGS green label holder. PCGS population of 108.

1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded EF-45 PQ. When one has to quickly think of two "key dates" in the Morgan Dollar series, the 1889-CC and 1893-S immediately come to mind. Like the 1889-CC, the 1893-S is always being sought after by a huge base of collectors and dealers and the supply/demand ratio is almost always in the favor of those possessing one. The surface quality and luster on this magnificent piece are more AU in appearance than EF and while there are some light areas of wear on the brow, above the ear and bottom of neck, this example certainly seems conservatively graded to us. The cheek of Liberty is free from any hits except two small ticks in the center. Luster is soft and satiny. On the reverse, the only mark that is out of place is a scuff mark right of arrow tips. A fantastic opportunity to acquire a fresh and original example of this rock-solid rarity (PCGS # 7226) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.

1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded EF-45 PQ. A key date within the Morgan Dollar Series and an issue that has seen demand climb steadily through the roof. This example has even wear from circulation with a light gray coloration and luster still visible. Moderate hairlines are found in fields otherwise spared any sharp scratches or nicks. What appears to be a lint mark is found on the lower portion of the neck. Feather detail on the wings is above average for the grade and the overall appearance is that of a choice Extremely Fine. A pleasing circulated example of this heavily sought after issue (PCGS # 7226) .

Lot 2008
1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Fine-15. A extremely popular "key date" with an ever-increasing level of demand at the lower circulated grades. The lowest mintage for 1893, 100,000, and one of the lowest mintages from the series. Even wear and antique gray surfaces. Some old, light golden toning has settled into the recessed areas. One of the more pleasing Fine example we have seen in some time and certain to receive intense bidding from "key date" enthusiasts.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

Lot 2009
Original and Choice Fine 1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Fine-12 PQ. A refreshingly original example of this "key date" Morgan! Aged gray surfaces with lighter gray coloration on the high points. All detail is even in appearance. Aside from a few old vertical scratches on Liberty, the obverse and reverse surfaces are minimally abraded. An old golden patina is seen within the recessed areas of the designs. One of the most sought after Morgan dollars in any grade, the basal value of 1893-S dollars continues to rise with no signs of a pullback in sight. Housed in an old PCGS green label holder (PCGS # 7226) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.
