The Julius Caesar denarius is a VG portrait coin, the Claudius is a damaged fourree, and the Galba and Vitellius pieces are in Fine condition. Lot of 12 coins contained in a white Capital plastic holder. Very Good (average condition).

Roman Empire. Caligula, et al, 1st century AD. Lot of Five AE Sestertii. Caligula, 2 examples of: Pietas seated left / Caligula sacrificing at temple (RIC 44). One with deep pitting to both sides. Another, in brass, perhaps a Paduan. Two of Nero: Decursio Type (Lugdunum); some areas of porosity or roughness, but overall quite nice, with pleasing multi-colored patina. Also, Temple of Janus Type (Lugdunum); Head left, with green patina -- smoothing and a little tooling to reverse. Claudius: Spes left Type; careful old-time smoothing to fields; tooling to reverse. Vespasian: Divus Vespasian, extensively re-worked so as to become an interesting piece of "folk art." Careful inspection suggested. Lot of 6 coins.

Roman Empire. Rare Civil War Denarius, 68-69 AD. Diademed and veiled bust of Vesta right. Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, holding scepter, all within bordered incuse square; RIC 6; BMCRE 70. Porous, but most interesting and Very Rare. Ex CNG 51, lot 1235. Also, Roman Republic, Denarius, M. Cipius, 115-114 BC.: Roma / Biga (RSC Cipia 1). Toned, with some luster. Two Severan Denarii: Caracalla, Roma reverse (Sear 2000 6869); and a young Geta, as "Young Prince" (Sear 2000 7194). Last a Theban Stater, 379-338 BC., Shield / Amphora, vine above; one a very oblong value. A variety of tones and surfaces. Interesting group. The Civil War coin extremely rare. Lot of 5 coins. Coins range from Fine to About Extremely Fine.

Roman Empire. Constantius II, 337-361 AD., et al. Lot of Seven Late Empire Silver Siliquae. Typical types. Two coins of Constantius II, with reverse wreath: with VOTIS XXX MVLTIS XXXX legend. Rest with Constantinopolis enthroned left reverse device: Gratian, 2 examples; Valens; Honorius; and Theodosius I. All well struck on fine to excellent metal, but several with usual thin flan cracks. The Honorius probably once mounted. A nice group. Lot of 7 coins. Coins range from Very Fine to Extremely Fine.

Byzantine Empire. John II, 1118-1143. Gold Hyperpyron. Seven hyperpyrons form this lot. Four were minted by John II: two are of gold (type of S. 1938), two are of electrum (S. 1942). Also included are three of Manuel I (S. 1974). The flans of these delicate scyphate coins are often broken a bit as these are, and several have graffiti showing ancient ownership. Lot of 7 coins.
