Lot 523
Buffalo Nickel. 1913. Type 1. PCGS graded Proof 67. A flawless gem that has somehow managed to survive in this pristine condition from an original mintage of 1,520 pieces in 1913. There is nothing to distract the eye from the pure beauty of this coin. Superbly lustrous with a razor sharp strike. One cannot find a single mark on the forehead, cheek or in the hair. In fact, this coin seems very PQ and there are only 2 examples known to finer at PCGS, both PR68's.
Full borders and sharp inner rims confirm the proof status of this 1913 Type I proof, which often times can be confused with circulation strikes in high grade. While considered "matte proofs", these proof issues generally have a high quality satin finish. With buffalo nickels increasingly disappearing to high collector demand, this piece will surely realize the healthiest of bids (PCGS # 3988) .
Estimated Value $5,800 - 6,500.
