Lot 1558
$2.50 Gold Liberty. 1907. PCGS graded Proof 68 Cameo. There are super rare United States proof gold coins out there that leave a permanent memory of beauty on those who have viewed them. They are few and far between and sometimes an individual might get to only see one……here is your chance! This 1907 superb gem quarter eagle is a perfect example of the near flawless quality our nation's Mint had the capability of making in the early 20th century. Far and away the Finest Known specimen to exist of this last year of the Coronet Liberty quarter eagle series when 154 proofs were minted. Amazingly, PCGS has graded only 3 proof Liberty quarter eagles this quality for the entire $2.50 Liberty gold series!

Striking cameo surfaces as a result of the United States Mint bringing back mildly frosted devices in this time period (1902-1905 were all brilliant). Cartwheel golden luster radiates from bold and shimmering devices. Fully reflective and mark free fields, with no film of any sort, make it hard to put this coin down. Date low and slants up to right. Identified by the tiniest lint mark (requires magnification, approximately. 0.3mm) hugging the middle of the neck.

Whether for the finest high grade type set or as a move to join the ranks of Trompeter, Garrett, Norweb and Bass, this 1907 $2.50 in PCGSPR68CAM represents a fantastic opportunity for the numismatic community (PCGS # 87933) .
Estimated Value $40,000 - 45,000.

$2.50 Gold Indian. 1911. PCGS graded Proof 67. Shimmering dark matte surfaces have the appearance of glittering sand and truly capture the beauty that the U.S. Mint wanted to showcase with these Matte Proof and Roman Proof Indian quarter eagles. While circulation strikes from the entire $2.50 Indian Head Series are obtainable with relative ease, the Proof strikings from 1908-1915 are the real rarities! Only 1,827 proofs were struck for all the years from 1908-1915 and a large number were melted in 1916 due to lack of demand from the U.S. collecting public, which at the time favored the brilliant proofs formerly struck by the U.S. Mint. In 1911, only 191 proofs were struck and you are looking at one of the Finest known to survive. The luster is subdued and rather than thick and flowing, it is a slight and shifting glittering of gold. Identified by a small lint mark from the second star towards the middle of the neck (mint made). PCGS has graded only 15 in this formidable grade with not a single example finer. Truly magnificent! (PCGS # 7960) .
Estimated Value $18,000 - 22,000.

$2.50 Gold Indian. 1911-D. PCGS graded MS-62 PQ. The key date in the Indian Head quarter eagle series. Demand has outpaced the limited supply of this issue and there are no signs of this trend stopping. Nice original color and softly granular luster still present. A very light hairline scratch from star 1 to just under throat. Mintmark is very bold. While grading this issue can be tough, those who view this coin will be impressed with the choice surfaces and lack of marks. Mintage of only 55,600 (PCGS # 7943) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 11,000.
