Lot 1112
Morgan Dollar. 1892-S. PCGS graded AU-55. A popular key date that is often overlooked in nice AU and is quite a bargain at the present grade level. Nice AU58 luster rolls across a well struck 1892-S that still has original mint frost. Light hairlines exist in the fields and some original magenta toning has started to appear in the obverse periphery. No serious marks or scratches can be found and the strike definition of the curl above the ear is slightly soft but above average.

Key dates in the Morgan Dollar series have experienced a huge surge in demand in today's coin market. While 1889-CC's and 1893-S's get more attention than the 1892-S, the 1892-S (more often seen in VF or low XF) is a legitimate rarity in choice AU and a full fledged Classic in mint state. Currnet Monthly greysheet bid in AU50 is $1,300 and in MS60 it is $24,500! Comparing the 1892-S against other well known "keys" of this series will support the notion that this date is seriously undervalued. The quality conscious and value driven collector or investor should give this lot seroius thought and bid accordingly (PCGS # 7218) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

Lot 1114
Morgan Dollar. 1893-CC. PCGS graded MS-64. A strong strike complements original surfaces on this final and elusive issue from Carson City. A mintage of only 677,000 was produced this year, a low figure that is larger only than the '80, '81, '85 and '89 Carson City issues. This coin boasts strong hair detail that has locked in original mint frost. Only the very slightest weakness of strike can be observed on the curl above the ear. A PQ example that has a gem reverse paired with a near gem obverse. Several small nicks exist on Liberty's device, most notably a horizontal tick on the bridge of the nose. Fantastic eye appeal and PCGS has graded only 7 specimens in MS65 (PCGS # 7222) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.

Morgan Dollar. 1894. PCGS graded Proof 60 PQ. Although just a "PR-60", this coin appears to have less marks and hairlines than one would expect. Probably dipped at one time, now some areas of slight discoloration have formed which probably resulted in this grade. This coin might improve if properly conserved. A popular date due to its rarity as a business strike. Only 972 proofs were made.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,200.

Morgan Dollar. 1894-O. NGC graded MS-64. Blazing white luster and clean fields. Cheek is above average in terms of lack of major marks. A frosty white example. Van Allen & Mallis commented on the 1894-O's tendency to come with rich luster and a weak strike and such is the case with this near gem example where strike weakness is present above the ear. Three short nicks on the breast of the eagle are the only marks on an otherwise gem reverse. One must consider this eye appealing specimen seriously as the only specimens finer than MS64's are 7 MS65 examples, costing a staggering amount more than the present coin.
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,500.

Morgan Dollar. 1895. PCGS graded Proof 62 PQ. A well struck and totally brilliant white proof example with nice cameo effect devices. Some scattered faint hairlines appear under magnification in the unprotected areas of the fields, none of which are too serious. An over all very pleasing example of the "King of Dollars" and qualifies as a Premium Quality example for the designated numerical grade. Always in great demand as this is the single most desirable of all Morgan dollars. PCGS reports a population of 71 pieces in this grade (PCGS # 7330) .
Estimated Value $35,000 - 40,000.

Lot 1119
Morgan Dollar. 1895. PCGS graded Proof 62. This is the issue that every serious Morgan Dollar collector has to acquire at some point. Considered the "King of Morgan Dollars", the 1895 proof achieves almost cult status among the dollar collecting community, as well as the numismatic arena as a whole. The piece offered here is sure to receive attention from this aforementioned community as its' deep reflective fields and collectible grade make it a solid foundation for any collection.

Delicate chalky toning over white surfaces. Liberty's cheek and face display only a few light scratches and faint hairlines. A short nick on the bridge of the nose is a good reference for future identification and pedigree research. Additionally, to the left of the S in PLURIBUS is a shallow patch of hairline scratches. On the reverse, another small patch of scratches to the left of U in UNITED. All devices still retain original mint frost and this example boasts great eye appeal.

The 1895 proof has the lowest number of examples available for each respective grade than any other issue from the Morgan Dollar series. While superb gem examples might be a little more available than gem examples of another business strike issue, like an 1895-O, the chance to purchase a 1895 proof in any grade is a serious occurrence (PCGS # 7330) .
Estimated Value $28,000 - 32,000.

Lot 1120
Morgan Dollar. 1895-O. PCGS graded MS-61. An impressively choice example of this key date to the Morgan Dollar Series! An undipped piece with thick, swirling luster. Finely granular fields have a few random abrasions but seem choice for the grade of MS61. A bit of soft lavender toning is settling into the borders, enhancing the originality of this coin even more. A thin vertical scratch exists at the back of the cheek. Strike is minimally weak above the ear and on the eagle's breast and we feel the strike is above average for this issue. Reverse quality is just as fine with uninterrupted surfaces and superb luster. Small patches of sky blue toning seen under each of the eagle's wings. A very frosty appearance with whispers of champagne and magenta toning.
The New Orleans mint struck only 450,000 dollars in 1895 and survivors in true uncirculated condition are very rare! A seriously undervalued Morgan Dollar issue and one that has always been scarce and tough to find. We are sure this extremely solid example will end up in a fine collection. PCGS has graded 22 in MS61 with only 57 finer (PCGS # 7236) .
Estimated Value $12,000 - 14,000.

Morgan Dollar. 1895-O. PCGS graded AU-53. A choice white example with luster above par for the grade. Light hairlines but no distracting marks or scratches. A small scuff under the S of PLURIBUS. Soft and satiny luster. Many 1895-O Morgan dollars come with strike weakness, even UNC's, and this example has weakness above the ear and on the eagle's breast but the rest of the devices are strong. A very nice coin for the grade. Mintage of 450,000 (PCGS # 7236) .

Morgan Dollar. 1921. Zerbe. PCGS graded Proof 65. A soothing and lustrous example of the "Zerbe" proof. Dark golden and gray toning over semi-reflective fields. Liberty's cheek is nearly flawless and very lustrous. The eagle's breast was spared any nicks or scratches and the reverse fields are a bit more reflective than those of the obverse. Frosty devices and the typically seen small spot of strike weakness seen on the wreath just to the right of the bow. A beautfiul gem rarity! PCGS has graded only 16 in this grade with ony 7 in PR66 as the finest.

After seventeen years of no proof production of Morgan Dollars at the Philadelphia Mint, Farran Zerbe put his request to George T. Morgan that proofs be made to his benefit. The result was the production of what numismatists now classify as two types of proof issues. The "Zerbe" proofs are characterized by a crossbreed of proof and proof-like qualities where proof-like fields and gem uncirculated luster mix with square dentils and other decidedly proof features. The "Chapman" proofs were struck from different dies and display fully reflective and brilliant fields. Additionally, the "Chapman" proofs are much more scarce than the "Zerbe" proofs (PCGS # 7341) .
