$300 in Face of Confederate Currency. Grover Criswell years ago would redeem Confederate Current at par to the United States Dollar at Memphis. Of course he wanted all the early Thian numbers and would take others also at "face". He even redeemed CSA 50¢ notes in poor condition! When asked why he would redeem CSA 50¢ in poor condition he would reply "Sir, to keep the good name of the Confederacy alive and well!"

Lot contains one of each of the following: T-9, T-41; two T-57s; four T-18s. Lot of 8 notes. Very Good to Fine.
Estimated Value $300 - 350.

T-13, Cr-58, 1861, $100.00s. This variety has the flourishes between "Confederate" and "States".

Estimated Value $275 - 325.

A Fantastic Collection of Confederate Notes Presented by President Taft's Secretary of the Treasury, Franklin MacVeagh. Never before offered, a collection of Confederate States of America notes, 50¢ thru $500.00, a total of 31 notes dating from 1861 to 1864. The condition will range from About Good to Extremely Fine and better. Presented by Treasury Department to D.H. Becker Post No. 251, G.A.R., Red Creek, New York. Includes the original typed letter signed by Franklin MacVeagh on Treasury Department stationary, Oct. 15, 1912:

Gentlemen: Believing that your Post will be interested in receiving specimens of notes issued by the Confederate States of America, for exhibition purposes in the Post headquarters, I take pleasure in sending you an assortment of the same.

These notes came into the possession of the Union Army about the close of the Civil War, and were turned over by the War Department to the Treasury of the United States in the year 1867.

The Treasury Department has no complete series of the notes, and in presenting such specimens as are now in its custody the Department feels assured that proper disposition will be made for their safe-keeping so as to render them of permanent value to your Grand Army Post as historical relics.

Very truly yours,
Franklin MacVeagh
Secretary
