1913-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. Rich satiny luster and a fresh, original appearance. Purple stain at the base of the reverse. This is the last truly affordable example of the date because of the dearth of better examples. PCGS reports 306 in this grade, only 11 in MS-65, and only 1 in MS-66. Between 1997 and 2001, only only MS-65 example appeared at auction! The MS-66 was nowhere to be seen (PCGS # 9163) .

1922-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. Deep, creamy mint frost on both sides. Gorgeous, pale yellow surfaces with hints of green and gold toning. Wonderful eye appeal for both the date and the grade. Scarce as a 64 and almost impossible to find nicer. PCGS reports 114 in this grade, 5 in MS-65, and only 1 in MS-66. Thus, finding a better one would be frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. Why not buy this one instead (plus a couple of other coins with the money you saved)? (PCGS # 9174) .

1924-D $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-63. PQ. Lovely orange and gold toning. If not for some marks on either side, this coin would be a lock 64, which would make it considerably more valuable. This is a tough, tough date, even in this grade and finding anything better is a real test of time, patience, and money. PCGS reports 100 in this grade, 121 in MS-64, 3 in MS-65, and 1 in MS-66 (PCGS # 9178) .

1924-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-63. Delightful, orange-gold toning with hints of scattered pink highlights. Nice strike and crisp details. A few bagmarks are noted on either side, but none are heavy or distractive. Hard to find this nice and definitely a rarity in higher grades. PCGS reports 118 in MS-63, 45 in MS-64, 2 in MS-65, and one in MS-67 (PCGS # 9179) .

1925-D $20 St. Gaudens. NGC graded MS-64. Gorgeous, sun-kissed orange-gold toning. A very pretty coin that deserves every point of the assigned grade. 1926 $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. PQ. Gorgeous, orange-yellow toning on both sides. We could not figure out why this coin wasn't in a 65 holder until we finally saw it -- a long, well-hidden scratch running down Liberty's right leg (it looks like a regular fold in her gown)! Lot 2819
1926-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. A boldly struck example of this important date -- even Liberty's shnozz is well-defined. Both sides feature a strong, chrome-like luster and a bold cartwheel brilliance. The color is a sunny yellow-orange with pinkish highlights in the centers. We suspect that several attempts will be made to get this in a 65 holder after the coin leaves our hands. And, we wouldn't be surprised if it made it! Very scarce in higher grades, the 1926-S Double Eagle is represented by 187 coins in this grade, 10 in MS-65, and only 1 in MS-66 (according to the PCGS Population Report) (PCGS # 9185) .
