Very elusive in mint state. This piece exhibits a few scattered marks and spots as expected for the grade. About 75% original red remains.

1897 Indian Head Cent. NGC graded Proof 67 Red & Brown. A very choice example. Deep mirrors give a slight cameo contrast. Multi-colored toning on both sides give superb eye appeal. The obverse is mostly gold with deepening color shifting to vivid purple. The reverse features more purple along with some rose and emerald in the fields. The wreath is a vivid rose color on the right oak leaves with purple on the olive leaves near the base and left oak leaves. Fascinating.

1899 Indian Head Cent. PCGS graded Proof 66 Red. This is a beautiful deep mirror gem. The fields exhibit an extensive "orange peel" look that is seen only on the earliest die state pieces. When the die is polished in its softened state it takes on a much deeper polish. Upon hardening the metal contracts slightly making the once mirrored field a bit wavy, similar to the ripples on an orange peel.
