1892-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ. One of only three MS-65 examples of this date graded by PCGS and a recent addition to the census (as late as February 2002, PCGS had graded only 1 MS-65). PCGS reports only 10 examples finer (4 in MS-66, 5 in MS-67, and 1 in MS-68). Thus, the hundreds of thousands of Morgan Dollar collectors have only a baker's dozen of PCGS certified Gem or better 1892-S Dollars from which to choose! The example offered here is snowy white and fully lustrous, with brilliant surfaces and bold "cartwheels" on both sides. Liberty's cheek is nice and smooth, broken only by a row of five milling marks just left of and below her ear. The reverse is perfect except for a mark on the eagle's breast. The strike is sharp, with full hair over Liberty's ear, and excellent details on the eagle's breast feathers. Comparables: in February 2002, the Benson II example (Lot 1467, then the only PCGS certified MS-65 example) was bought back by the consignor for $112,700 afterwhich we sold privately. This, then, is a new, wonderful opportunity for the advanced collector to purchase one of the classic condition-rarities of the Morgan Dollar series (PCGS # 7218) .
Estimated Value $60,000 - 80,000.

1893-S Morgan Dollar. AU-53. A strong AU example of this key to the Morgan Dollar series. Rare in all grades, even Good, but especially desirable in high, circulated grades. Lots of luster, but not lots of wear. A shallow, natural lamination flaw appears in the left obverse field by the fourth and fifth stars (this was caused by gas bubbles in the metal, creating a void that the pressures of the coining process failed to erase). A prize coin for the Morgan Dollar specialist and a nice alternative to the pricey Mint State examples of this date.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 14,000.
