Lot 1549
Gem Proof 1858 Judd-204. PCGS graded Proof 65. With most of the original golden red remaining, this little gem featuring a diminutive eagle will certainly please most viewers. The delicate mirror fields show some very faint hairlines and roller lines from the production process. Lightly toned with a streak of pale brown through one of the eagle's outstretched wings, the reverse nice save for a tiny spot on the left edge. One of the classics among cent patterns, not so rare that it can't be collected. Should absolutely be on every serious Flying Eagle cent collector's want list!

Lot 1551
Gem Proof 66 "Standard Silver" J-729 struck in Copper. NGC graded Proof 66 Brown. Chocolate brown in color and with splendid surfaces. Without a doubt one of the Finest Known of the issue, and certainly one of the most beautiful. Standard Silver issues have very ornately designed dies, the wreath of oak leaves and laurel has far more detail than those of regular issue coinage. Liberty herself is well executed. All is perfectly preserved, without spots or marks to detract.

Lot 1552
1870 Pattern Quarter Dollar. J-879. NGC graded Proof 65 Red and Brown. Standard Silver type, by Barber. Plain Edge. A very attractive example of this plentiful type, rated R6 in Judd and R7 in the newer Pollock book (this variety). Some bright red around the devices, otherwise a lovely reddish brown with some bluish hues. Real pleasing.

Lot 1553
A lovely J-1605 Pattern Silver Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64. Judd-1605. Rarity-7. Pattern Silver Dollar. Reeded Edge. Liberty has a coiled hair bun, looking very similar to the "Washlady" style. Deeply frosted on the devices, with hazy mirror fields contrasting. Untoned and perfect for the grade. Fully struck, and one of only 3 graded by PCGS, one a Proof 60, this coin, then one coin a notch higher. Perhaps half a dozen in all grades, this certainly in the top couple of those that survive. Designed by William Barber, the head of Liberty faces left with hair gathered in a coil and held by a ribbon behind her head. Similar to the design used on the coiled hair Stellas. The reverse has an eagle with raised wings holding an olive branch with six leaves in the right talon and three long, slender arrows which pass behind the wing in the left, partially surrounded by two crossed branches of laurel tied with ribbon at the bottom. E PLURIBUS UNUM in field above.
Silver Dollar patterns are always difficult to find in choice or gem condition, and are especially popular with collectors. Many new designs were executed in limited numbers, and no doubt Congress had a hard time choosing one design over the many others offered.
