Lot 1417
1880. NGC graded Proof 68 Cameo. Wow! What a special coin. Liberty's head is offset by having a blazing white cameo look, while the obverse field is a striking greenish mauve, with fully reflectivity. Reverse is less dramatic, mostly a deep mauve out of which the eagle emerges subtly. Population: tied with 10 others in 68, with none graded higher. If you love great Morgan Proofs, check out this coin!

Lot 1420
1880-S. NGC graded MS-68. Watery surfaces, white frosting heavy on the eagle and portrait of Liberty and all the minor devices, full cartwheel luster, and nary a mark, even microscopic. Gorgeous example of this most common gem date. Nearly a hundred graded 68 or 69 so far by the two major slabbers, which really isn't a lot in terms of the thousands of gems graded.

Lot 1426
1881. NGC graded Proof 67 Cameo. If you look closely, you'll see some really faint hairlines and some tiny slides across Liberty's cheek, but the grade does not really seem exaggerated if you step back a moment and realize that this coin is completely untoned, white and cameoed, meaning that there's just nothing on it to cover these tiny, tiny faults. Such things probably reside on other superb Proofs as well, that are toned. It's just a fact of life that people have touched these big, beautiful coins for many years now, and perfection is hard to preserve. Whatever you think of it, you will have to end up admiring this coin's qualities.

A boarderline Gem 1883-S PCGS graded MS 64. PCGS graded MS-64. One of the truly rare Mint State pieces around and about as nice as anyone can find. PCGS has only graded 193 in this grade, with a mere 10 graded higher. So, unless you are willing to spend boatloads of money for one of the ten better ones, this is the coin for your collection. A no-nonsense borderline gem that is fully white in color, with frosty devices and clean surfaces. The hair over Liberty's ear is full and complete, as are the eagle's feathers on his chest.

Possible Overdate 1886/7 in Choice Proof 64. PCGS graded Proof 64. Here is a coin that deserves some extra examination. The final 8 in the date appears to be over a 7, with the tail of the 7 extending just below the lower loop of the 8. Each of the digits show slight recutting. While recut dates are noted in the Breen Encyclopedia, no mention of any overdate is found. Multicolored toning on both sides and well struck. The fields reflect the normal hairlines from long ago cleaning.
