1922 Plain. NGC graded MS-61 Brown. NGC's "61" designation sounds harsh, doesn't it? If you think this might not be a nice coin, have a close look for yourself. Its surfaces are choice, the brown bronze color is nicely melded with bluish red, the date is crisp without even the slightest trace of the lapped "D" mintmark, and the reverse is as bold as you could want. A copper specialist might be able to make the faint black flecks on the reverse disappear, thus bringing out all the qualities of this cent. One of the rarest issues in this series and in a very presentable state of preservation, especially considering that these were never held aside near the issue time.
