Lot 2586
Interesting Tiffany Lidded Box in Hand-Painted Porcelain. The hexagonal box white, with faintly blue-tinged glaze, and attractive Turkish-style painted floral arabesques in cerulean blue, with added gold highlights, on the lid, and a similar floral wreath encircling the walls. A gilt bronze hinged frame, with rosette catch, joins the lid to the body. On underside of body, painted in red, a four line inscription: "Tiffany & Co., Private Work, Hand Painted, Made in France." At bottom, also in red, "509 B". In painted blue, an L, retrograde E, and T; beneath, in block letters, "AM." To left, the painted blue pottery mark "erased" by overpainting in fired gold. Aside from the metal rosette being a little bent, and slight wear to the gilding, the box overall very fresh. Box width: 3". This would have been done around 1900, plus or minus a decade.

This is the first time we've handled a Tiffany "private," or commission work like this, and can make no other warranties aside from the information on the box. It is an attractive object, but the bidder's experience should be one's guide as to what it's worth.
Estimated Value $300 - 500.
