1914 Gold Medal George Inness Award. PCGS graded AU-58. 60 mm 120.68 grams, made by Tiffany & Co. Awarded to Robert Spencer. Pop 1. Estimated Value $15,000 - UP
The George Inness Award is an honor bestowed upon outstanding American landscape painters. The award is typically given to artists who demonstrate exceptional skill and creativity in the depiction of natural scenery, carrying on the tradition of Inness's innovative approach to landscape art. The exact criteria and administration of the award may vary depending on the organization or institution offering it.

Robert Spencer (1879-1931) was an American painter associated with the New Hope Impressionists, a group of artists who settled in the New Hope area of Pennsylvania in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Spencer was known for his atmospheric landscapes and intimate interior scenes that captured the essence of everyday life. Spencer's style was influenced by both American Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, and he developed a distinctive approach characterized by loose brushwork, bold colors, and a keen sense of light and atmosphere. His paintings often depicted scenes of rural life, capturing the beauty of the Pennsylvania countryside and the everyday activities of its inhabitants.

In 1914, Robert Spencer was awarded the prestigious George Inness Award, recognizing his contributions to American landscape painting. This honor cemented his reputation as one of the leading artists of his time.
