Lot 85
1797. 15 Stars; LM-1. PCGS graded VF-25. CAC. Lightly toned on both sides. A Premium Quality example. This is a lovely collector coin, first off, its the diffictult to find Draped Bust, Small Eagle style. Not only is this coin straight graded (a rarity on these tiny early half dimes) but this coin has the coveted CAC sticker too! That makes it suitable for any advanced collection. Furthermore from a numismatic standpoint, the obverse die has shattered with an advanced crack from the rim below the bust up to through the T of LIBERTY with a branching secondary lumpy die crack from Liberty's upper chest down through the 9 in the date to the rim. These later die cracks are seen on precious few coins and are fascinating to study. The reverse has a singular die crack bisecting the E of UNTED to the wreath. Always seen with poor definition on the eagle's feathers, as this variety is seldom found sharp on the reverse, especially with this later die state of both the obverse and reverse dies. Rarely offered and always in demand for the type, date and variety. Pop 1; 9 finer at PCGS (PCGS # 38597) Estimated Value $3,500 - UP
