Lot 537
Gem Multiple $1 FRN Major Error Note. This is an R-8 category error that is rarely offered at auction. What you are bidding on is a Type II Inverted Overprint with a portion of the top showing on the portrait side and the Green Third Overprint featured on the reverse upside down. This is a $1 1999 FRN s/n A03637965B graded PMG 65 EPQ Gem Uncirculated, and it is a terrific rarity. Estimated Value $3,000 - 5,000
The vast majority of overprints that appear on the back of notes are "right side up". This beauty features the overprint in upside down position. The fourth edition of the Bart guidebook places the value at $2750, but that valuation was eight years ago and we feel today's price will advance significantly.
As with so many notes in the Black Horse Collection, you can't call your favorite dealer up and ask him (or her) to ship you a note like this. They just don't sit in inventory, when or if they ever become available.

Must Have - Overlooked Multiple Error Note. This is a $1 1999 FRN note that was labeled an Overprint on Back Error, and was graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated. It bears the serial #F00157994B and has a fascinating second significant error. Estimated Value $800 - 1,500
This is a note that in our opinion, PMG should have noted, that it featured two errors instead of one. While the obvious Green Seal and Serial Number Error printed on the back, was noted, this dandy note features a faint but still clearly evident inverted overprint on the portrait side of this note. We see this as a rare dual error note that should bring a major price at today's auction.

We can't stress enough that small head fifty dollar error notes should be salted away for the future. The small printing runs make this denomination very, very tough to locate.
The seven year old Bart Guidebook values this note at $850 and we think it will do far better today.
