1924-D. PCGS graded MS-63. Lovely golden toning on both sides. A nice example for this scarce date. Here again, just over 3 million were struck for circulation but the massive meltings of the 1930s devastated this issue leaving around 1200-1250 pieces that exist today, the balance being turned into gold bricks held in Fort Knox. This date is ranked as the 14th rarest issue from the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series based on the number known today, not the number struck. Clean surfaces are the rule here, with good luster and rich vibrant appeal. An important offering for the specialist in this series. An excellent collector coin in evrey way, condition, rarity and eye appeal (PCGS # 9178) Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500

1924-S. PCGS graded MS-62. CAC. Premium Quality. Lovely golden toning on both sides and sharply impressed by the dies. This is one of the classic branch mint coins which suffered nearly complete devastation from the melting pots of the mid to late 1930s. Nearly 3 million 1924-S double eagles were struck for circulation, most were held in bank or Treasury vaults until they were called back by the government and melted after 1934. Today perhaps 1,000 pieces exist, if that many in total, to represent this date as the entire mintage was virtually wiped out by being melted a decade after these were struck. Today this is considered one ot the top 15 dates and mints from this popular series. and while obtainable for a price, is seldom offered at all. Most of the known survivors are in the MS-62 to MS-64 grade range. Popular scarce date and hard to find with CAC approval (PCGS # 9179) Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500
Ex The Inverness Collection.

1925-D. PCGS graded MS-63. Well struck. Light toning here and there. A few marks otherwise should be MS-64. Scarce date and one of the top dozen of the rarities of the Saint-Gaudens gold double eagle series and a coin which is rarely offered in any grade. It appears that fewer than 900 of these survived in all grades, this out of a mintage of nearly 3 million coins! The vast majority were melted and precious few survived at all. Of those known today the majority as in MS-62 to 64 condition. Gems are extremely rare of this date and mint. These tend to come well struck and lustrous, with strong eye appeal for the collector who is seeking an example. Most of the Denver and San Francisco coins struck during this era were melted and did not escape to Europe where they would have had a chance to survive the melting's of the 1930s.

This one is quite handsome and pleasing for the grade assigned, and worthy of any advanced collection as this semi-key date is quite the challenge to find at all, let alone this nice! Impressive quality yet still in the affordable range for collectors. Just graded for the very first time (PCGS # 9181) Estimated Value $7,500 - UP

1925-D. PCGS graded MS-62. A nice example with light gold toning here and there. Minor bagmarks as expected for the grade but sharply struck with with the eye appealing luster, color and mint appeal. In terms of rarity, this issue is even a bit scarcer than the 1924-S just offered. This is believed to be the 11th rarest date in the entire Saint-Gaudens series in terms of coins known today. Once again the original mintage of nearly 3 million coins being struck for circulation, however; the vast majority sat around in bank vaults and Treasury stores in inventory or to prop up the reserves of various banks. Thus in March of 1933 when Roosevelt called back all the gold coins in circulation that could be gathered, these 1925-D double eagles were sitting ducks and the vast issue was virtually melted into gold bricks held in Fort Knox. Today is is believed that approximately 800 to 850 pieces survived the melting pots and still exist. Indeed, if that many pieces, according to Coin Facts. Popular semi key date. Nearly all of the known examples grade between MS-62 and MS-64 today, with a scattering of finer examples and a few lower grade and circulated coins that still exist to represent the 1925-D issue (PCGS # 9181) Estimated Value $7,000 - UP

1925-S. PCGS graded AU-55. Lightly toned with some wear showing on both sides on the uppermost devices. This is another date that shows a high mintage, in this case 3,776.500 pieces struck for circulation, but precious few ever made it out of the canvas bags they were delivered in. Most sat in banks or the Treasury vaults and were counted as reserves, not really needed for circulation. Then along came March of 1933 and President Roosevelt called in all the gold coins that he could gather, and off to Fort Knox where they were stored for a brief time then melted into gold bricks. This particular date was nearly wiped out, with about 775-850 pieces thought to exist today. Curiously and unlike some of the other D and S mints from the 1920s, a larger portion of the 1925-S comes circulated, as seen here. Apparently a number of these were issued and entered circulation, and a modest group of these circulated coins survived. Today the 1925-S ranks as the 12th rarest issue of the Saint-Gaudens series. A prized rarity that should not be missed, even in high circulated grades like this. Scarce date (PCGS # 9182) Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000

1926-S. PCGS graded Details of Uncirculated, Scratch. Sure looks like a MS-64 coin. Lovely rich golden toning. The minor scratch appears on the reverse, down the center of the eagle, likely a victim of staple that caught the coin being pulled from an old holder. Nevertheless, this is a scarce mintmarked date and a coin that should be considered for its rarity and low suvivorship from the original mintage (PCGS # 9185) Estimated Value $2,500 - UP
