Lot 1513
1799. Small obverse stars. PCGS graded Genuine Details of About Uncirculated, Mount Removed. Well struck with semi reflective fields. A very nice looking coin despite the small edge mount being removed. It is curious that quite a number of these early United States gold coins survived as jewelry pieces around the necks of prominent early Americans, survived long enough to escape the melting pots of the late 1820s and early 1830s, when nearly all this old tender gold disappeared. This particular coin shows much of the original surface and does not have that pebbly look often seen on other jewelry pieces (PCGS # 98562) Estimated Value $5,000 - UP
Ex The Dr. George Elanjian Collection.
