One of the founders of the Israeli Airforce, Weizman also served as its Commander from 1958-1966. After retiring from the military, he entered politics, serving as Minister of Defense, of Arab Affairs and of Science and Technology. He was elected as Israel's seventh President in 1993 and served until 2000.
