The Three Stooges: Rare Signed Still by "Moe Larry Curly" to a Very Young Ann Miller While Making "Time Out for Rhythm" in 1941. Rare inscribed and signed 8 x 10" black & white still from "Little Sew and Sews" (1939), a Columbia Pictures comedy, which starred the Three Stooges, Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard. The Three Stooges made several films after and in late 1940 began filming "Time Out For Rhythm" which featured a very young Ann Miller (allegedly 18, likely younger) who showcases her dancing talent in the film's ending musical number. This still was gifted to Ann Miller with each of the Three Stooges individually signing. Moe Howard then inscribed "To Ann, Say dear, who going to stop you. We're not, 3 Stooges Good Luck". Obviously Ann Miller went on to enjoy a long career at MGM, stage and television.

Authentic, signed Three Stooges photos are extremely scarce to find given the generation of fans they enjoyed. Now with on-line memes and gifs, their appeal has skyrocketed in the last 20 years approaching the Marx Brothers and the demand is considerable. Condition is excellent, the photo well cared for in Miller's possession. There is evidence of handling with very light rippling and minor corner creasing. Moe, at time of signing smeared his "E" which was always a problem with fountain pen ink. But his handwriting is excellent in the inscription. A very desirable piece. Estimated Value $4,000 - 6,000

Hedy Lamarr: Early Signed 10 x 13" Portrait Photo Dated 1941. A Stunning Beauty, Actress and "The Brilliant Mind of Hollywood" Scarce (1914-2000) Austrian born film actress who skyrocketed to fame during the Golden Age of Hollywood due to her talent and most especially her star magnetism on screen. Her big break was in the film ALGIERS with Charles Boyer and any many MGM hits after including BOOM TOWN, WHITE CARGO and with Paramount, her biggest in Cecil B. DeMille's SAMSON & DELILAH. And of course her name lives on in the running gag in BLAZING SADDLES; "Not Hedy, it's Hedly Lamarr!"

Very scarce early autograph on a vintage original B & W portrait photo, matte finish inscribed "To Toskon Ted, Sincerely Hedy Lamarr, 1941" in black fountain pen ink

But the remarkable success of Lamarr that only became public in the past 20 years was her work as an inventor, an offshoot to conquer boredom in between filming. A complex bit of technology, but Lamarr and her close friend, composer George Anthiel set about creating a system so radio controlled torpedoes during WWII could not be jammed. She funded the research and filed for the patent. The principles of their work are incorporated into Bluetooth and GPS technology and are similar to methods used in legacy versions of CDMA and Wi-Fi. This work led to their induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame posthumously in 2014. Estimated Value $1,250 - 2,000

Irving Berlin Collection: Two Signed Letters, Original Birthday Composition and Additional Lyrics to a Friend for 25 Years, Samuel Hoffman (Rare) (1888-1989) Hailed as one of the greatest songwriters in American History, the acclaim and popularity of Berlin is without equal composing over 1500 songs in his 60 year career including the scores for 20 original Broadway shows and 15 original Hollywood films. Irving Berlin was a close friend to a school teacher, Samuel Hoffman for over 25 years. In 1957, Berlin composed and recorded a song to Hoffman on the occasion of his 81st Birthday which appears to have been on or about July 14th. Only one recording was made and that was exclusively or Mr. Hoffman which was entitled "Sam, Sam The Man What Am".

On July 14, 1958, Irving Berlin sent a letter to Mr. Hoffman " Here's a slightly different lyric to the same tune of your birthday song. I hope you like it. Love Irving". Letter measures 10½ x 7½" and is on his fine letterhead (by Cranes Crest) signed boldly in blue fountain pen ink. With the best of intentions, the letter was laminated with the additional lyrics and composition on verso which measures 11 x 9" keeping both pieces pristine

On July 13, 1959 Irving Berlin sent Mr. Hoffman a new verse for his original birthday song which reads

"Sam, Sam the man what am
You still are on the beam
Eighty-three --- will simply be
A day for more ice cream
When your first plate is through
Order one more or two
Happy Birthday to you"

With love,
Irving "

On smaller letterhead, 7 ¼ x 5¾" and is signed in blue fountain pen ink. This letter was also laminated and remains pristine. Estimated Value $400 - 600

Humphrey Bogart Suit: Warner Bros. Pictures Handwritten Label in Pocket, Dated August 5, 1941 Production 375, Humphrey Bogart Bold and Clean. Warner Brothers issued wool suit for Humphrey Bogart clearly handwritten on a Warner Bros. label inside suit pocket including the date, 8/5/41 Production 375, Size 38. In very tiny letters just below the Warner Bros. Pictures embroidery, in completely different handwriting is written "Double" and in different ink. (a second suit? a stand-in, a later production? The suit has certainly been worn) It was very common at the studios during WWII to re-use costumes for other films due to shortages.

The exact label in the vest again clearly has handwritten "H. Bogart", Production 375 (but on the lining is stamped, not written, "WB 379). Further the Warner Bros. Pictures label is over-stamped with multiple production numbers. As for the label in the pants, the label clearly at one time got wet and everything smeary.

It is very difficult to match brown pin striped fabric to B&W images, but it seems there is a suit Bogart wears extensively in ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT that very much matches the stripes, buttons and lapels which was released in January 10, 1942 which is the lead time necessary from production in early August, 1941 to release in 1942. Suit is in excellent condition. Estimated Value $4,000 - 6,000
