You are bidding on the documented first set of Proofs printed by the Bureau of the rare Red Seal 1914 Federal Reserve series notes. This set was presented to Secretary of the Treasury William McAdoo by Joseph E. Ralph, the Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing on December 21, 1914. While the red seals and serial numbers are not as bright as issued notes often are, this is typical for other large size specimen notes.
This set is accompanied by a typewritten letter written by the Honorable Joseph Ralph who had these five notes framed for presentation to the Secretary of the Treasury James McAdoo. Also included in a typewritten document from McAdoo giving these notes back to Mr. Ralph with his compliments. This set would be expected to be in the Smithsonian or at a Federal Reserve Bank museum. It is arguably the most impressive lot in this sale.

Amazing matched 10 piece set of serial #00000000 fronts and backs in high grades. Terrific High Grade Set of 10 Specimen Notes: (front/back grades follow each serial #) $5 1934C FRN E00000000B PCGS 65PPQ/65PPQ, $10 1934C FRN E00000000B PCGS 63PPQ/65PPQ, $20 1934C FRN E00000000B PCGS 67PPQ/65PPQ, $50 1934C FRN E00000000B PCGS 64PPQ/65PPQ, $100 1934C FRN E00000000B PCGS 67PPQ/65PPQ. We are including a photocopy of the photocopied letter that came with this lot when it was purchased by our consignor attesting to its provenance. Estimated Value $25,000 - 50,000
This is a set of notes that you cannot obtain by contacting dozens of dealers saying you want one. There are none in anyone's inventory and price is a subject of discussion, because specimen sets like this never stay in dealer's inventory. They sell immediately to advanced collection on the rare occasions one presents itself. Don't confuse this set with the more common serial #23456789 1950 to 1976 specimens that show up at auction with some regularity.
The 1934 Specimen notes rarely show up individually and even less often in complete sets. You won't likely see another set come up for auction for several years…if then. While the more common serial #23456789 specimens bring $3000 to $5000 per note, these s/n 00000000 from 1934 are in a different rarity league.

Gorgeous Matched 1934D Trio of s/n 00000000 Specimens. Impressive Gem Set of 3 serial #00000000 Specimen Notes: There are three notes in this set, each printed on the fronts and printed on the backs. $5 1934D FRN K00000000A PCGS 68 PPQ, $10 1934D FRN K00000000A PCGS 66 PPQ, $20 1934D FRN K00000000A PCGS 66 PPQ. Estimated Value $15,000 - 30,000
Unlike the other serial number 00000000 sets featured in the first two lots, this set is printed on both sides of each note. All have been graded Gem to Superb Gem and make a "killer" display. Far scarcer than the #23456789 1950 - 1974 counterpart FRNs.
This set should bring no less than $20,000 but we have chosen to start bidding at a bargain basement price. We wouldn't be surprised to see bidding push well past the high bid estimate….but bidders will dictate what this set will bring.
