Green Acres, Arnold Ziffel's Bed. Arnold The Pig's Bed from the Hit Television Series (1965-1971) Television Pop-Culture History. Green Acres (1965-1971) proved a sensation for CBS starring Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor. The colorful characters of Hooterville won Americans over but nothing like Arnold the Pig. Introduced first in "Petticoat Junction" Arnold was the "son" of Fred and Doris Ziffel a childless couple who took Arnold in as their son, and all of Hooterville accepted him as such….except Oliver, Albert's character. Arnold the Pig proved a huge pop culture sensation and remains so now. Frank Inn trained all the iterations of Arnold who truly was behind making Arnold the Pig a star. From the famous 1983 auction held at Butterfield's Auction in Los Angeles, CINEMA MERCANTILE's LIQUIDATION AUCTION, historic props such as the piano and furnishings from CASABLANCA all made history and have again being re-auctioned as jaw-dropping prices. Arnold the Pig's bed was lot 89 in that same auction held in 1983 and to our knowledge has never appeared since. Bed is 29" x 20 with Cinema Mercantile's inventory number underneath as well as Davis Cabinet Co. Nashville who made it. Xerox copy of auction page included. Estimated Value $12,000 - 18,000

Irving Berlin Collection: Nine (9) Typed Letters Signed 1955-1968 (1888-1989) Hailed as one of the greatest songwriters in American History, the acclaim and popularity of Berlin is without equal composing over 1500 songs in his 60 year career including the scores for 20 original Broadway shows and 15 original Hollywood films.

Offered is a collection of typed letters signed, all on his " Cranes Crest" letterhead with dates from 1955 to 1968 all measuring 10½ x 7¼".

Two letters are to Irving Hoffman, a Broadway publicist and columnist for the Hollywood Reporter. Berlin writes to him regarding a song he has written called "Israel" but couldn't get clearance due to Al Jolson having written song entitled the same. Letter is dated December 1, 1959. In a 1967 letter, Berlin writes Hoffman about additions he has made to his Broadway musical "Call Me Madame" and closes hilariously with "Sometimes when you are in the mood, I'll let you hear the tunes. But what the hell do you know about music anyway? Love, Irving"

One letter is to Harry Brand, legendary publicist for 20th Century Fox from the 1930-1960 who made Shirley Temple the most famous child star in history, Betty Grable a GI Joe pinup girl and Marilyn Monroe a sex goddess. Berlin references Julie Andrews that "Metro had finally signed her, references a mutual friend getting a great apartment (on point for a New Yorker) and "It took 60 years to get from a 15¢ flop house on the Bowery to a house on Beekman Place."

Six letters are to Larry Hoffman, son of Irving where they speak of Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, a birthday wish, some gossip and a drawing given to Hoffman by Berlin.

Eight of the letters are in pristine condition. The letter regarding the song "Israel" to Irving Hoffman has one staple very slight soiling and toning. Estimated Value $800 - 1,000

Irving Berlin Collection: Two Signed Letters, Original Birthday Composition and Additional Lyrics to a Friend for 25 Years, Samuel Hoffman (Rare) (1888-1989) Hailed as one of the greatest songwriters in American History, the acclaim and popularity of Berlin is without equal composing over 1500 songs in his 60 year career including the scores for 20 original Broadway shows and 15 original Hollywood films. Irving Berlin was a close friend to a school teacher, Samuel Hoffman for over 25 years. In 1957, Berlin composed and recorded a song to Hoffman on the occasion of his 81st Birthday which appears to have been on or about July 14th. Only one recording was made and that was exclusively or Mr. Hoffman which was entitled "Sam, Sam The Man What Am".

On July 14, 1958, Irving Berlin sent a letter to Mr. Hoffman " Here's a slightly different lyric to the same tune of your birthday song. I hope you like it. Love Irving". Letter measures 10½ x 7½" and is on his fine letterhead (by Cranes Crest) signed boldly in blue fountain pen ink. With the best of intentions, the letter was laminated with the additional lyrics and composition on verso which measures 11 x 9" keeping both pieces pristine

On July 13, 1959 Irving Berlin sent Mr. Hoffman a new verse for his original birthday song which reads

"Sam, Sam the man what am
You still are on the beam
Eighty-three --- will simply be
A day for more ice cream
When your first plate is through
Order one more or two
Happy Birthday to you"

With love,
Irving "

On smaller letterhead, 7 ¼ x 5¾" and is signed in blue fountain pen ink. This letter was also laminated and remains pristine. Estimated Value $800 - UP
