$5 National Bank Note. First NB & TC of Ridgefield, CT. Ch. 5309. Fr. 1800-1. PMG Fine 12. Chartered in April 1900, the First NB would then add the Trust Company nomenclature in January 1920. While there are 21 large size notes recorded, this is one of only five small size notes and the only $5 note known thus far. This is the first auction appearance of any small size note on the bank since 2008, likely reinforcing that the other notes are tightly held in collections. PMG graded Fine 12. Converting from the Old Colony Bank in April 1865, the bank would issue a little over $6.7 million in bank notes before being closed in November 1934.
