$20 National Bank Note. Housatonic NB, Stockbridge, MA. Ch. 1170. Fr. 650. PMG Very Fine 20. Stockbridge is located western Massachusetts, and is the home to the Norman Rockwell Museum. This was the only National bank to operate in town, having chartered in 1865. PMG mentions rust and pinholes on the back of their holder, with the rust mainly confined to the back left edge. During the years 1864 and 1865, seven different banks would charter in Salem, with the Merchants NB being the sixth it was the only bank to last the entire National Banking era, but did not issue small size notes. This Brown Back Five has stamped signatures of Henry Batchelder as Cashier and George. R. Emmerton as President, with both men serving together from 1883 thorugh 1887. Estimated Value $750 - UP
