Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 211
1928 $1 Legal Tender. Fr. 1500. PMG Gem Unc 66 EPQ. S/N A00000020A. pp H. (AA Block). While dated 1928, these $1 Legals were printed in 1933, and were not released until 1948 in Puerto Rico, so there would be no confusion on the mainland. The first ten sheets (of 12 notes per sheet) were retained to be issued in sheet form for collectors. We know that the first two sheets were cut up into singles years ago, as this serial number 20 note first appeared in a 2006 sale. A gorgeous example that looks like it just arrived from the BEP. Estimated Value $3,000 - UP
From The Brooklyn Collection.

Lot 213
1928 $1 Legal Tender. Fr. 1500. PMG Gem Unc 66 EPQ. S/N A00000051A. Further research indicates that the majority of those first ten sheets have now been cut up to provide collectors the ability to obtain a low serial note from this series, as this serial number 51 note comes from the fifth sheet. Our consignor obtained this beauty back in a 2012 sale. Estimated Value $2,000 - UP
From The Brooklyn Collection.

Lot 221
1928B $2 Legal Tender Star. Fr. 1503*. PMG About Unc 58 EPQ. S/N *00942054A pp F. (*A Block). The key to having an example of every small size Legal Tender note begins, or likely for the majority of collectors, ends with acquiring an example of this ultra-rare star as currently only ten examples are recorded. This PMG AU 58 EPQ example is the second finest known, as the finest is a PMG Gem 65 EPQ that is locked away in a tighly held collection, likely for years or decades to come. The bright red seal and serials contrast beautifully against the bright white paper, with only a corner fold accounting for the grade. Auction records only show the very fine examples, as our research shows that the two aforementioned finest notes have traded privately, or from a price list years ago. The highest graded note to auction is a PCGS Currency VF 25PPQ note that has sold a few times between $25,000 and $46,000 in the years 2008 through 2015. A PCGS VF 25 (not PPQ) sold for $17,625 back in 2017 and is the last sniff any collector has had of this rarity at auction. The PMG Population report confirms the top two notes, then the next highest is a VF 30 followed by a VF 25 note. One should expect spirited bidding on this note as only a select few can complete the small size legal tender series by acquiring this beauty. Estimated Value $100,000 - UP
From The Brooklyn Collection.
