Large 18th-19th Century Chinese Bowl with Compelling Designs. Striking 18th Century Chinese bowl. Reign marks are underglazed with the blue and black details on sides of bowl and the compelling design at center are fired on-glaze; enamel like. The center of bowl warrants close study, it's crude artistry adding immeasurably to its appeal.

Important Russian Enamel Cigarette Case, "The White Swan", Prior to 1908. Spectacular Craftsman and Artistry. Stunning Russian enamel cigarette case with breathtaking artistry and detail in every flower and in the feathers of the white swan. The case is painted the same on the recto and verso.

The character of the "White Swan" appears in Russian folklore and poetry that transform into beautiful maidens. In Slavic mythology, swans were treated as sacred birds and it was forbidden to kill them. The beauty and graciousness of these birds gave rise to legends about swan maidens. Swan maidens were supposed to be elegant, mystical creatures that rule the roost of nature.

Case is hallmarked 84 Zolotnik with woman facing left, this an assayers mark of a woman wearing a scarf or traditional kokoshnik. Woman facing left indicates case made prior to 1908. The case is in excellent condition. We note only three very tiny chips to the enamel visible only with a loop. Fortunately they are in the petals and difficult to notice. Beautiful Russian Enamel Jewel Box Chest with Extremely Fine Panel of Russian Imperial Infantry. Outstanding Russian enamel jewel box with details in the traditional foliate design are exquisitely rendered. Russian pieces have an assayers mark of a woman wearing a scarf or traditional kokoshnik narrowing down a when piece was made. If the woman is facing left, it usually means made prior to 1908, to the right after 1908. The number 84 means 84 zolotnik or silver fineness. This piece is hallmarked 84 Zolotnik with woman facing right.

The box is all but flawless, very well kept with articulate chest handles on opposing sides and functional hasp lock. 2 x 3 x 2½" and weighs 13 troy ounces. Estimated Value $800 - 1,500

Russian Lacquer Box from Palekh: Spectacular, Large Console Box of a Folklore Scene Boasting Stunning Detail and Extraordinary Gilt Gold Details. Russian lacquer art developed from the art of icon painting. After the collapse of Imperial Russia, icon painters/artists needed a way to make a living. Thus, the craft of making papier-mâché decorative boxes and panels developed, the items were lacquered and then hand painted by the artists, often with scenes from folk tales. Offered is a spectacular example from Palekh of extraordinary beauty. remarkable detail and exquisite artistry. Lidded box is fully hand painted and resplendent in extensive gilt gold highlights that the lid appears to shimmer in the light. As with all the boxes in auction, box has the usual rich red lacquered interior. This piece has been signed by the artist, and on verso, the artist and studio also signed in gold. Fine scrolling surrounds the box not only framing the art of the lid but surrounding the middle sides of the box. 13 x 10 x 3". Excellent condition. It is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain lacquer boxes of this quality from Russia. Estimated Value $600 - 1,000

Fully hand painted Russian lacquer boxes are becoming scarce as craftsman join co-ops and the level of production is focused on volume. Offered is a lacquer box from Fedoskino beautifully painted depicting the Russian fairytale, "Vasilisa The Beautiful". Included with this box is a brief synopsis of the tale, but know the artwork has many of the elements from the story; the young woman, the doll, the red knight and red horse and the small house she was raised in the forest. 2 x 8 x 5" boasting fine artistry and details including the elaborate scroll work on the sides. Striking Footed Russian Lacquer Box from Kholui Signed on Verso of a Fairy Tale King, His 3 Daughters and a Magical Firebird. Kholui lacquer boxes are Russian folk handicraft of a miniature painting, which is done with tempera paints on varnished articles made of papier-mâché ranging in sizes suitable for many uses. They are painted with local bright paints over the black background and are known for their delicate and smooth design, abundance of golden shading, and accurate silhouettes of flattened figures, which often cover the surface of the lids and sides of the articles completely. Palekh is the most renowned of four such famous villages who are known for creating traditional craft boxes.
An abundance of highly detailed ornate borders painted in gold and silver on top and sides makes this piece quite lovely and the enhanced gilt details painstakingly executed. A gorgeous kingdom ruled by king and queen with riches aplenty at their feet. Excellent condition boasting remarkable details and signed on verso by artist. 1½ x 4 x 6". Estimated Value $200 - 400

Russian Lacquer Box: Glorious Winter Scene, Artfully Distressed to Appear as Antique. Excellent Russian lacquer box that while painted in the early 90s, intentionally distressed to appear quite old. The superior decoupage image of a winter scene with townspeople enjoying a playful procession of horse drawn sleds and families ice skating, the box is very heavily varnished and lacquered giving the image a heavily toned quality, and the lacquer having extensive crazing, a technique in adjusting certain ingredients in the lacquer. Together with rubs in finish, this piece very much appears to be far older than it actually is. Very different approach and quite appealing. 1¾ x 7 x 7". Estimated Value $200 - 400

Magnificent Chinese, White Jade, Laughing Buddha, 19th-20th Century. The "Laughing Buddha" or "Budai" brings good luck, contentment and abundance in one's life. In a great many cases, the Buddha's depiction will convey wealth and prosperity, happiness or satisfaction and occasionally, adoring children that follow him.

All of these elements exist in one of the finest jade pieces we have ever offered. A beautifully carved Budai in precious white jade. Antique white jade has been revered for thousands of years and is as highly prized in China as gold and diamonds are in the West. Besides a beautifully rendered carving of the Laughing Buddha boasting a huge smile, his fine round belly in full view, he is surrounded by 5 children many carrying money, full bowls of food, bread and the like.

A fantastic piece measuring 12 x 12 x 6" and weighs 26 pounds. We find no repairs, cracks or chips to this wonderful piece. Estimated Value $35,000 - 50,000

Impressive, Deeply Carved, High Relief Jadeite Vase Surrounded by Dragons, Elephants and Foliate Scrollwork. Gorgeous vase with astonishing high relief carving of dragons and elephants wrapped in their tails. The dragon in Chinese art symbolizes good luck, strength, health, authority and Imperial power. The high relief carvings in this piece are astonishing with the dragons extending a ½ to ¾" from the sides, their bodies open allowing light to give a translucence to the work.

Stunning Chinese Carved White Jade Censor Shaped Bowl with Gorgeous Opalescent Translucence. Excellent Chinese carved jade censor shaped bowl that is remarkable in the craftsmanship of the details on the textured sides of the censor as well as the lid and the foliate footed base. But it's the handles of this piece that truly conveys the artistry. Extending over an inch on opposing sides each with a drop ring, the handles are each topped with a carved chrysanthemum and have carved open work as well.

Bowl is of the softest white jade, with a milky translucence that is beautiful. 5¼ x 6 x 4" and is in mint condition. Comes in custom box with foam and black velvet sides. Estimated Value $5,000 - 8,000

Antique Chinese Tibetan Silver Bronze Incense Censer with Nephrite Jade Insets and Carvings With Turquoise, Coral and Lapis Gems, 20th Century. Magnificent antique Tibetan silver washed bronze incense burner / censer. In a pagoda style the censer has three levels of inlaid panels of nephrite jade that completely surround the censer top two set apart with diamond shaped carved stones of coral and turquoise. Just above that a large band of coral, jade and turquoise inlaid stones polished to a high gleam again surrounding the censer. The lid has large tear drop and round shaped cabochons in coral, turquoise and lapis. The chimney has impressive open scroll work, four jade medallions also with open work, and finally topped with a finely carved small monkey atop and exaggerated pear shaped gourd.

The work in this piece is worthy of very close inspection. Overall in superior condition we note six of the very tiny diamond shaped stones on the outer perimeter. Otherwise this is a wonderful piece of Tibetan traditional art worthy of any level of collector. 13 x 10 x 7". On stand 15½" tall. Estimated Value $1,000 - 2,000

Beautiful Mughal-Styled Jeweled Jade-Hilted Dagger with Inlaid Gold and Semi-Precious Stones. Indian, Mughal style Jade Handle Dagger. Size 17 1/4 inches length. Single edged Damascus (water) steel blade with inlaid gold arabesque at the chape. Elaborate jade handle with the pale green jade hilt beautifully carved having an open work pommel and decorated with foil-backed colorful stones mounted in gilt gold settings designed as foliate stems the same on the recto and verso.
Blade was removed from handle for flight over 20 years ago. Easily made secure with bond. Excellent condition and displays beautifully. No scabbard. Estimated Value $600 - 900

Monumental and Stunning Early 20th Century Archaic Patinated Bronze Chinese Vase with Extraordinary Dragon Motif. The storied W. & J. Sloane Co. "the taste-setter" for luxury homes with clients ranging from the Rockefellers, the Vanderbilts, the Whinteys and of course the White House spanned decades. Their flagship store on 19th and Broadway in NYC was second to none.

From the storied retailer, this magnificent patinated bronze Chinese vase was purchased in the 1950s. Vase stands 24" tall and conveys with a custom rosewood base that adds two inches. The patina is rich with browns greens and touches of red. But it is the stunning dragon in exceptionally high relief with extraordinary details in the head and body that wraps itself entirely around the urn.

Goldberg Auctions took receipt of this piece as a large lamp, with an 18 x 20 x 20" shade, three bulb sockets, and suitable for any large room. Easy to dismantle or reconfigure, we can send both the shade and light fixture hardware which are modern and in excellent condition. Because of the conversion, there is a professionally drilled centered hole at bottom that was necessary to convert to a lighting fixture. Lamp is just at 44" tall with base and shade.

Again an outstanding, magnificent early 20th Century bronze vase, 24 x 16 x 16" and weighs 64 pounds.

English Cameo Art Glass Vase in White on Citron Green Colored Glass, Most Likely Thomas Webb. Thomas Webb English cameo art glass vase. The vase features graceful flowers and leaves in various stages of bloom on a lovely citron green background. The finely carved details of the floral decoration wraps around 60% of the body. There is an attractive decorative border just below the rim. There is a polish pontil as well as a flat polish base on the underside. Very likely Thomas Webb but vase is unsigned

Condition: Near to mint. At the lip of vase a small "bruise", a teensy internal hairline crack that does not impact white glass trim or the inside green glass. Looks like a tiny bubble.

Also included is an enamel painted glass vase that evokes true cameo glass. Nevertheless the quality is outstanding with excellent detail in the foliate design
