1930s to 1960s Phenomenal Collection of 180+ Vintage Matchbooks: Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, World War II Related Plus 40 ca. 80s-90s. From a 65 years long resident of Burbank, CA and Warner Brothers Studios, a most incredible collection of vintage matchbooks that prove a snapshot of history of several US cities but most especially the state of California. 99% have never been struck. Quickly sorting through we noted:
An original Bob's Hamburgers, the logo similar but different, Club Cobra, Los Angeles, Florentine Gardens, Hollywood, LA Vegetable Exchange, Downtown LA, a supersized matchbook from The Derby only three blocks from Santa Anita Racetrack with each match printed with name of Derby winners, Lawry's Prime Rib, Los Angeles (Still in LA but new building), Hoffbrau Garden, Sunset Blvd., Louis Maro's Club 114, Downtown LA, Cafe Caliente, Union Station, Los Angeles, Harry Sugarman's The Tropics, Beverly Hills and scores more from LA. Other California locations include Hotel Barbara, Santa Barbara, The First Cabin, Wilmington, California, The Ahwahnee, Yosemite, The Mark Hopkins, San Francisico, too many to mention. We do note Club 606 in Chicago, Al Schract Restaurant, NYC and several of hotels no longer standing. What also intrigues are the numerous WWII related match books including all branches of service and many of the bases for example Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, numerous advertising to buy War Bonds and Stamps, numerous 40's era business with playfully risque illustrations.
Several quite humorous. "Watch Your Wife: We'll Watch Your Coat". Another War Bond matchbook, "Strike at The Seat of Trouble" flip over and the striker is on the back of Hitler's pants.
We invite everyone to come preview as many are highly prized. Some 225 match books here in very good to excellent condition. Estimated Value $100 - 300
