Iran. Very Rare Order of Pahlavi, Collar Set: Manufactured by Arthus Bertrand in Paris. Consisting of order's collar, silver gilt and enamels, with collar badge, diameter 78.9 mm, silver, partly gilt and enamelled with enamel painting, slight chipping and hairline cracks in the center ring and chipping on two blue rays, the four crowns on the reverse fixed with 12 hollow rivets, on the reverse manufacturer's name, total weight 361.2 grams. The breast star, diameter 93.7 mm, partly gilt and enamelled, 136.1 grams with enamel painting, the four crowns on the reverse fixed with 12 hollow rivets, manufacturer's name, with pin and two lateral fixing hooks. Reza Shah Pahlavi, 1925-1941. This highest order of the empire was named after the reigning Pahlavi dynasty. The 1st class, consisting of collar with badge, sash badge with sash and breast star, was limited to the male members of the immediate Imperial family, reigning monarchs and foreign heads of state. Nasser-ed-Din shah also introduced the Aaftaab (Sun) order for royal women. The Aaftaab order was introduced in 1290/1873 specifically for presentation to queens and princesses, including the empress Augusta of Germany and Queen Victoria, during the shah's European tour in that year. The shah's wife Anis-ed-Dowleh received it on his birthday in 1306/1888. In 1314/1896 Mozaffar-ed-Din Shah (r.1313-24/1896-1907) awarded it to the wife of the Ottoman ambassador Shams-al-Din Beg. During his reign, decorations were made of silver.
