Lot 1278
1799. NGC graded AU-58. Well struck thru the centers with plenty of original mint luster still intact with the surfaces showing rather average handling marks. This is a popular type coin which is seldom offered at all, let alone in this near mint condition! An impressive example of this late 18th century gold piece. Estimated Value $10,000 - UP

1847-O. PCGS graded MS-61. RPD, labeled as "Minor Variety" by PCGS (PCGS #V8598). Lightly toned with lovely greenish yellow gold throughout. The base of the 1 is clearly repunched along with the top of 7, and there is a thin die crack from the lower right of the 7 to the edge. An elegant look to this important Mint State New Orleans coin, and a prized conddition rarity when found this nice. Pop 10; 8 finer at PCGS for regular 1847-O $10 gold. (PCGS # 8598) Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000

Lot 1281
1853-O. NGC graded MS-62. Fully untoned with reflective fields on both sides, with minimal signs of handling keeping the technical grade high as well as the eye appeal. An important New Orleans issue which is nearly always found well circulated and never this well preserved. In fact, this is one of the finest graded by either grading service and a classic condition rarity that will no doubt elicit considerable attention from date and mint specialists. Looks like a special striking or at least an early strike from the dies as they are so fresh and imparted a slightly reflective nature to the fields. Only 51,000 struck, and this coin is clearly tied for the finest example to survive with just one other coin. Pop 1; tied with a PCGS MS-62 for the finest examples graded at both services. (PCGS # 8612) Estimated Value $25,000 - UP

Lot 1282
1868. NGC graded MS-61. Light to moderate bag marks as nearly always seen on these gold eagles from this era. The surfaces are lustrous and retain a good amount of eye appeal. Of course what really makes this coin desirable is the rarity in all grades. Despite a moderate mintage, mint state pieces today are all but unheard of for this date and mint. The finest is MS-62 at PCGS and MS-61+ DPL at NGC. Nearly all of the 175 or so pieces that survived from this period are circulated. Here is one of the finest certified and a desirable coin at this level of preservation. An untoned example. Only 10,630 struck. Pop 3; 2 finer, 1 in 61 Prooflike, 1 in 61+ Deep Prooflike. (PCGS # 8653) Estimated Value $12,000 - UP

Lot 1283
1873-CC. NGC graded AU-53. This is a key date and one of many great rarities from the Carson City Mint. The mintage of a tiny 4,543 pieces sets the stage for difficulty in finding an example, and her is one of the absolute finest behind just a few others slightly finer. No examples have yet been certified in full Mint State, so this AU53 is certainly one of the finest around. CoinFacts estimates that only 78 individual pieces survive, or about 1.8% of the original mintage! The fields and surfaces are exceptionally clean, keeping the eye appeal high and there's ample luster in the protected areas. A premium rarity in spectacular condition, certainly a key coin that is not to be overlooked. Light golden toning. A very rare "CC" Mint eagle. Only 4,543 struck. Pop 7; 3 finer, 1 in 55, 2 in 58. (PCGS # 8667) Estimated Value $40,000 - UP

1896-S. NGC graded MS-63. Well struck and frosty with mostly yellow gold luster on both sides. Nice light toning. The strike is decent and the surfaces smooth and clean, with one little nick above Liberty's chest in the field. A condition rarity this nice! Pop 2; 3 finer, 2 in 64, 1 in 68. (PCGS # 8736) Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,000

Lot 1293
1909-D. PCGS graded MS-65. A tiny mark in the obverse otherwise MS-66 or better. A hint of orange gold tone with hints of the usual greenish gold intermixed. The strike is bold on Liberty's headdress and the eagle too, right up to his tiny breast feathers. A condition rarity at this lofty grade level and one of the top dozen or so graded by PCGS. The mintage of 121,540 pieces has been reduced by melting to something a tad over 4,000 pieces today, about half of which are mint state. Here is a memorable and enticing example of this sought after date in gem condition. A visually impressive coin in every way. Pop 6; 7 finer, 1 in 65+, 4 in 66, 2 in 67. (PCGS # 8863) Estimated Value $35,000 - UP
