1843-O. Large letters. NGC graded AU-55. A most attractive coin with soft coppery gold color throughout. The wear is minimal on the high points and the surfaces (critical on these large gold coins) are really smooth and pleasing. A delightful example from the early days at the New Orleans Mint. Mostly light toning on both sides. Attractive example. Only 82,000 struck. Pop 9; 45 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 8216) Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,500

Lot 1255
1845-D. PCGS graded MS-60. This is a scarce Dahlonega Mint issue in mint state, but more available in lower, circulated grades. Notice how the fields retain the mint luster, and the color is a uniform yellow gold with a hint of green. Fully struck too, with each curl well defined and the reverse eagle feathers are sharp. A few scattered handling marks from long storage account for the modest grade, which is proper. A lovely high grade example for the date collector. Well struck with nice mint luster. Only 90,629 struck. Pop 3; 20 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8224) Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500

1854-D. NGC graded MS-61. Medium D, not attributed on the label. Boldly struck with lovely light golden toning. Sure looks nicer than the assigned grade with sharp devices, clean surfaces and great visual appeal. This is one of the finer examples known of this scarce date and mint. All in all, this is a regal example and worthy of a strong bid. Only 56,413 struck. Pop 22; 26 finer at NGC. Estimated Value $8,000 - UP

1877-S. PCGS graded MS-60. Untoned with semi reflective fields on this key condition rarity. Although there are approximately 300 pieces known, there are only 4 coins reported in Mint State by PCGS, which confirms what a condition rarity this is. The mintage was plentiful enough and in grades of VF or EF that only a modest premium is neeed, but after EF45 watch out, the demand and rarity for this date and mint dramatically increase. Here is one of the finest examples known! Rare date in high grade. Only 26,700 struck. Pop 1; 3 finer, 1 in 61, 1 in 62, 1 in 64. (PCGS # 8344) Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,000

1904. NGC graded Proof 67+ Cameo. A blazing white gem cameo proof with virtually perfect surfaces and radiant blazing orange gold color. Liberty's cheek is essentially perfect in its preservation, with no signs of handling or spotting. The fields are equally perfect, with no stray nicks or marks. For the reverse the superb quality continues, with each feather bold on the eagle, the shield lines crisply defined and the fields unmarred by even the slightest fault. Incredible quality to behold, and one of the top graded examples to survive of this low mintage proof. A wonderful boldly struck coin that displays the incredible appeal of the Cameo contrast on this desirable proof format, and rarely seen on this date too. After all, proof gold coinage is the absolute caviar of our numismatics, issued in tiny numbers and survivors are few and far between. Here os one of the absolute nicest ones known of this date. Only 136 pieces issued. Pop 1; only 1 example graded finer as 68 Cameo at NGC. (PCGS # 88499) Estimated Value $50,000 - UP
