Martin Marietta Aerospace Atmospheric Science Facility Preliminary Design Model, December 1972. Project spearheaded by Martin Marietta Aerospace for a reusable, manned, general-purpose optical research facility: from a PDF file found on line:
Studies of the emission and scattering from the atmosphere, of the solar flux impinging on the Earth, and of the extinction of this radiation at sunrise and sunset, have been made in the entire spectral region from the extreme ultraviolet to the far-infrared. These studies have been made by many observers using balloon, rocket probe, and manned and unmanned orbital platforms, and the data obtained have led to a vast improvement in our knowledge of the basic processes that control both the Earth's atmosphere, from the ground to several Earth radii in altitude, and man's environment. Manned orbital vehicles offer an excellent platform for such studies.

Offered is an extremely appealing concept model for such a facility. 6 x 15 x 7" model is in excellent condition, but has an internal pressure fissure that does not break through the curved plexiglass on one end and hardly a distraction. Immensely appealing. Estimated Value $600 - UP
