Apollo 17: Very Fine Collection of 8 Individually Signed Color Portraits, All Three Crew Members Included in Collection. Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon by NASA. Moonwalkers Eugene Cernan, Harrison Schmitt and Command Module pilot Ron Evans and 5 mice shattered records of previous missions including the longest Moon landing, longest total lunar surface extravehicular activity and the largest lunar sample collected for study; a 243 pound rock. Collection includes three superb signed NASA photos by Gene Cernan, one of the Earth (signed with no inscription) one on the moon and one of the all three crew on Earth with the rover. Harrison Schmitt has signed his portrait in his white space suit as well as a crew photo on the rover. Ron Evans, a signature that is not easy to find, two signed portrait photos in his white space suit both inscribed and signed boldly. Completing this lot is a signed NASA portrait of Astronaut Joe Engle in a tan flight space suit. Engle was one of the support crew of Apollo 10 and scheduled to fly on Apollo 17 but was replaced with Harrison Schmitt when NASA decided to have a scientist (a geologist) go to the moon. That said, Engle is not without his mark on history. He is the only person to fly two winged space vehicles; The X-15 and the Space Shuttle.

Dalai Lama Typed Letter Signed with First Day Issue Moon Landing Stamp Canceled July 20, 1969; Triumph of Man Conquering the Moon. A unique Apollo 11 artifact. The (14th) Dalai Lama composed a one page observation on the extraordinary achievement of Man landing on the moon. Typed on an 8½ x 11" light vellum sheet, the Nobel Peace Prize winning spiritual leader addresses the "phenomenal feat of far-reaching consequences for the world of science". He then addresses Buddhist text explanations of galaxies within galaxies and that the hope man will ultimately achieve through science and spirit mental peace and satisfaction when he reaches the moon." This letter was canceled in person at a US Post Office for the First Day Issue "First Man on the Moon" stamp Jul. 20, 1969. Apollo 8: Dick Underwood Apollo Lunar Orbit Chart Four Separate Panels. Set of four lunar maps created by Underwood from photography from Lunar Orbiter 3, which took pictures from February 15-23, 1967, confirming safe landing sites for the Apollo program. Underwood helped create these maps with the assistance by the Army Map Service, measure 16 x 43" and printed on RC paper (a plasticized paper). It appears these were greatly reduced for printing by the Department of Defense on A 12 x 32" sheet identified as Apollo Lunar Orbit Chart (ALO) 1st and 10th Revolutions, 21 December, 1968 Launch Date which is also included. The four panels are in overall fine condition with just scattered creases. There are some hand notations. The paper lunar surface map shows evidence of insect damage on one end and some minor edge tears.

Flown Apollo 10 Map Section of South Grafton, Australia With Coordinates. Map is Signed by LM Pilot, Gene Cernan with Informative COA. Apollo X is commonly referred to as the "dress rehearsal" for Apollo XI. But to their credit, the full crew of Apollo X; Gene Cernan, Tom Stafford and John Young are the only ones to all fly on another Apollo, each making their mark in history. Offered from Apollo X is this flown map section which was removed from the Earth Landmarks Maps and Photos book, NASA part # SKB32100079-320 the complete volume which had been in the possession of Command Module pilot, John Young, until it was auctioned in 2010. Purchaser, with great care, divided up the map for secondary sales allowing collectors to have an opportunity to own a piece of this history. Purchaser also was able to have Gene Cernan sign this map section "Gene Cernan, Apollo X & XVII". Map segment is 4¾ x 8" and comes with a very informative COA plus a CD-Rom of the entire map book when it was still in a complete ringed binder. One of the images on the disc is indeed the map section offered. In mint condition, Cernan's signature bold and executed in black ballpoint pen and the CD-Rom having no issues in opening files. Apollo 11: Buzz Aldrin Inscribed and Signed Photo to Dick Underwood Thanking Him "For Helping Record It All" (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. One of the best signed and inscribed photos by Buzz Aldrin, the second Moonwalker, made even more appealing is that it was addressed to Dick Underwood "With Best Wishes And Thanks For Your Part In Helping To Record It All". Fine image of Aldrin, with LM in background with the inscription and signature very large and bold. LOA from Underwood Family. Estimated Value $600 - UP

Apollo 13: Flown Kapton Foil Segments, Flown Heat Shield Component and Signed Lunar Surface Map by Fred Haise, Each With Informative COA's. Apollo 13 collection: 1.) Two segments of Kapton foil housed in round specimen mount and affixed to COA suitable for shadow box framing. 2.) Ablative heat components (chunky and dusty) with two inch segments of fibrous glass threads all in a small ziploc bag with a very informative COA. 3.) Single sheet removed from the "Lunar Surface Exploration Map Data Package" that was used to familiarize and train Jim Lovell and Fred Haise with details of the Fra Mauro region.
