Archive of 275 70mm Glass Slides from the Dick Underwood Collection (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the twentieth century.
Collection of 275, 70mm glass slides from the personal archive of Dick Underwood. Slides range from Gemini to ASTP and quite diverse. On the whole the collections contain striking images of the Earth, moon, astronauts, training exercises, diagrams, maps, images captured by astronauts during flight, command and lunar module photos, the lunar surface and much more. A handful of slides may have stress cracks but the images are sound.

Dick Underwood's Archive of 1960-74 Collection of 11 Studies and Proposals for Photographic Equipment + Geologic/Terrain Studies of Moon (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. Interesting collection of industry studies and proposals to NASA for issues regarding photography and mapping from space. There are proposals and studies from Fairchild Space and Defense Systems, Chicago Aerial Industries, Inc., WILD Herbrug, Edgerton, Germshausen & Grier, Inc., GEO Space Corporation, North American Aviation, Inc. and Graflex. Additionally there are published studies from not only NASA but Goddard Space Flight Center on everything from Geologic Evolution of the Moon, Terrain Photography Reports going back to Gemini, to a comprehensive "Photographic Plan" prepared by EVA and Experiments Branch Crew Procedures Division, Manned Spacecraft Center. Many of the covers showing some silverfish damage otherwise fine given the years in storage. Also included is a small collection of 20 high altitude aircraft images of Earth 10 x 9¼" which Goldberg Auctions has never offered before. A lot of material here! Estimated Value $400 - UP

Great inventory for collectors and dealers alike of vintage NASA, Aerospace and Related Contractors printed materials. 1.) 18 laminated badges for personnel access into the mammoth Vehicle Assembly Building, John F. Kennedy Space Center, 20 non laminated, non-stamped badges. 2.) 22 Authorized Vehicle Passes for a number of different Shuttle launches. 3.) Over 300 NASA guest tags, employee tags, personnel badges truly spanning many years of NASA events and launches as well as some from various contractors like Rockwell. 4.) Over 300 decals spanning NASA history from the 1960s to 2000s and all different. Some very obscure divisions and yet all fascinating and all boasting colorful and well designed insignias. Dick Underwood Collection of Video, Audio and 16mm Film From His Collection While Working AT NASA (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. Offered is a collection 16 reel to reel audio tapes, the great majority labeled ASTP he held onto for years. Also are two full reels of 16mm film. The reel without a film can the leader reads Apollo XI and MA-6 as well as NASA MSC. Film remains supple and after pulling about 10' of film, the frames become clean and scratch-free. The other reel is marked "Major Advancements in the Manned Space Flight Program" 33 minutes. Inside can a Production Scene List Locator prepared by the Public Affair's Office lists scene descriptions with topics such as "Astro While Weightless", "Fuel Burn Test". "Man in Gondola", "Rotating Centrifuge" "Shake Test Apollo Saturn Model" "Gemini FSTV Drop", "SA-6 Launch" and much more. Film has remained quite clean and supple. Finally three 3/4" tapes entitled "NASA…….THE 25TH YEAR" dated 9/20/83 (no running time), " "World's Fair Presentation" dated 7/16/84, 15 mins. long and "Space Station Next Logical Step" dated 10/23/84, also 15 mins.
Goldberg Auctions has not previewed or listened to any of these items but know all have been in the collection of Dick Underwood and comes with an LOA from the family. Estimated Value $300 - UP

Fine collection of vintage original NASA photos spanning the manned space programs from Mercury to ASTP. A mixture of B&W and color glossies with a few litho prints as well and all unique. Many of these photo are some of the most iconic portraits and images especially from Apollo. But the photos from Mercury and Gemini are absolutely amazing and rarely seen. All in excellent condition. Kennedy Space Center Artifacts: Launch Complex 39A Light Pole Segment plus Vehicle Assembly Building Segment with NASA VAB Personnel Badges. Unusual NASA Kennedy Space Center artifacts: 1.) From Launch Complex 39A a segment of a light pole which was mounted to the LOX vent hood walkway structure. Launch Complex 39A was the site of 94 launches from 1967-2011 including all but one of the Saturn V moon rocket Apollo flights and 82 Shuttle liftoffs. Comes with a very informative letter of authenticity by Ken Havekotte including two photos of the support pole structure. 2.) Segment of the mammoth Vehicle Assembly Building located near Launch Complex 39. This segment was salvaged and cut from a panel that was blown off the sides during Hurricane Frances and Jeanne in 2004. Also included are four laminated KSC-NASA government issued badges for personnel access. Estimated Value $250 - UP

Nine Original Editions of LIFE MAGAZINE Including: The Famous Mercury 7 Astronauts, The Next Issue The Wives (1959) 7 Issues Involving Apollo 11. LIFE Magazine, one of the most popular magazines in American publishing history was given incredible access to NASA. In 1959, LIFE elevated the stature of the Original Seven, Group 1, Mercury 7 Astronauts by having them on the Sept. 14, 1959 cover. One week later, seated exactly the same were the wives. These two issues were featured in the film THE RIGHT STUFF in the not so subtle campaign to win the American public over with the stories of these 7. Both in excellent condition. The balance of the collection all involve Apollo 11 and the moon landing. Also included is a Time magazine on the moon landing and two issues regarding the Columbia disaster.
