Project Gemini: 4 Inscribed and Signed Photos to Dick Underwood Including Signatures by Grissom, Armstrong, Aldrin, Conrad, Young, Scott + 2 more (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. Great collection here from four Gemini Missions of crew signed photos. Gemini III: John Young inscribes "One of these days will get some good pictures, best regards John Young III with Gus Grissom co-signing. Gemini VIII, Dave Scott inscribing To Dick Underwood with BEST PERSONAL REGARDS and Many Thanks For Your Help on Gemini VIII and co-signed by Neil Armstrong. Gemini XI, Richard Gordon Jr. and Charles Conrad signing a photo of Earth. Gemini XII James Lovell inscribed "To Dick Underwood, Thanks for all your help. Excellent collection of dual signed commemorative Project Gemini covers and one 8 x 10" signed photo for a total of 7 signed pieces. 1.) GT-4 beautiful commemorative cover postmarked day of flight, June 3, 1965 Cape Canaveral, Florida signed by James McDivitt and Edward H. White. White made history by being the first American to walk in space. 2.) GT-5 commemorative cover cover postmarked day of launch signed by Cooper and Conrad. 3.) GT-6 commemorative cover signed by Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford post marked day of splashdown, USS Waldron. 4.) GT-7 fantastic commemorative cover postmarked day of launch, Dec. 4, 1965 and signed by James Lovell and Frank Borman. 5.) Project Gemini Collection: 7 Signed Photos + 1 Trading Card: Included are McDivitt (x2), Cooper, Schirra (x2), Borman, Cernan and a Superb Young. Gemini was an early NASA human spaceflight program which helped them get ready for the Apollo moon landings. Ten crews flew missions on the two-man Gemini spacecraft between 1965 and 1966. Offered is a collection of 7 signed photos by some of the men in the program 1.) Red Numbered photograph dated 1965 from Gemini IV using a 70 mm Hasselblad camera of the Midland-Odessa area of West Texas signed by Jim McDivitt plus a second vintage B&W photo of having his ears checked by a physician with publicity copy on verso. 2.) Excellent Red Numbered photograph of Gene Cernan in SC-9 capsule. 3.) Frank Borman portrait in coat and tie signed. 4.) Wally Schirra restrike color portrait signed with an autographed Gemini SpaceShots trading card. 5.) Gordon Cooper signed portrait in coat and tie 6.) Outstanding inscribed and signed color lithograph of a handsome John Young in his Gemini Space suit also signing GTX. Young had the longest career of any astronaut flying and serving with NASA from 1965-2004 with a career highlight of being the 9th man to walk on the moon. Estimated Value $900 - UP

25 Multiple Signed Covers of 65 Covers Commemorating Project Gemini Including Cooper, Gordon, Conrad, Cernan, Young, Lovell and Borman. 65 Commemorative Gemini Covers including 25 multiple signatures of Cooper Gordon, McDivitt, Collins, Borman Conrad, Schirra, Stafford, Lovell, Cernan, Young and Robert Gilruth (first director of Manned Spacecraft Center. Also included are 40 unsigned commemorative covers with many boasting a variety of postmarks specific to the Navy recovery ships that plucked the astronauts from the ocean. It appears most recovery ships are represented in the collection. There is one cover, a memoriam to John F. Kennedy signed by John Glenn and again Robert Gilruth.

Also included in this lot are two letters from the National Air and Space Museum Assistant Director, F.C. Durant, one dated 1967, the other 1975 answering very specific questions regarding the Gemini IV capsule on display with photos included. Interesting content.

Two Early NASA Artifacts; Gemini -Titan V (GT-5) Flown Checklist Manual Page Grid plus a Scarce Pin Section from the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse. Two unusual pieces from some of the earliest days of NASA and the Cape. 1.) From the Gemini program, GT-5, with Gordon Cooper and Pete Conrad on board in August of 1965 for nearly 8 days. From Conrad's re-entry flight manual, a full page grid measuring 1 ¾x 1¾" that was clipped from a page of 24 grids that flew on GT-5. Conrad's manual was acquired by Havekotte in 1994 and these segments have allowed other collectors to enjoy a piece of flown history. Also an 8 x 10" vintage color litho is included of both astronauts. 2.) At the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station sits an historic lighthouse. Found on the site when the lighthouse was moved further inland in 1868 a door hinge pin was found. The pin was divided into only 20 pieces. This is one of the 20 segments and comes on an informative LOA by William Dickerson about this history of this beautiful lighthouse. Estimated Value $150 - UP

Gemini IV: 11 Absolutely Stunning 4 x 5" Vintage Film Positives from Ed White's History Walk In Space, True Colors, Excellent Condition (1930-1967) Ed White made history during Gemini IV being the first man to walk in space (EVA; Extravehicular Activity). From Dick Underwood's collection, eleven 4 x 5" color film positives were found in near flawless condition. Eight of the positives are of White or the spacecraft, three are of the Earth. The positives are in sleeves which have have protected the film and only the slightest bit sticky. The sleeves separate easily from the film if needed to be removed. The colors are stunning and the clarity remarkable. Of particular note is a close-up of White's face peering through his helmet with the Earth behind him. Sold with the Kodak Vericolor Type L box these were stored. Estimated Value $500 - UP

Ed White Tribute Lot: Two Vintage Original Official NASA Photos of White's Historic Space Walk Plus Two Samples from "The White Room" (1930-1967) Two vintage original official NASA photos of Ed White's historic space walk during Gemini IV, the first American astronaut to do so. Photo One, while not printed with the red serial number is indeed from that first generation printing and is likely the most iconic image of the mission. Photo Two, is an original litho printing also from 1965. Both in excellent condition. Also included is actual sections of the flooring of the White Room floor from Launch Pad 19. The White Room structure was at the top of the gantry that surrounded the Gemini spacecraft which gave workers access to key components of the spacecraft and obviously access for the astronauts. Gemini XII: Superb Dick Underwood Collection of 20 Red Serial Numbered Images of Buzz Aldrin's 5 Hour EVA from 1966 Beautifully Archived (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. 20 beautifully archived red serial numbered NASA photos from the collection of Dick Underwood of Buzz Aldrin's historic 5+ hour EVA on Gemini XII, photos taken by co-crew member, Jim Lovell. No duplicates and know these images exhibit only modest dye instability with blues and whites still somewhat vivid. One of the best collections of photos from Gemini we have offered with one of Buzz looking directly into the camera that is about as winning of portrait of the man ever taken.
