Secretariat: Triple Crown Champion, 1973 Signed Photo by Jockey Ron Turcotte, Legendary Run at the Belmont Stakes (1970-1989) Secretariat, "Big Red" legendary American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the coveted Triple Crown in 1973, a feat that had not been seen for 25 years. But the stallion's elevation into infamy was the final, world record run at The Belmont Stakes, arguably one of the greatest races in horse racing where he won by 31 links.
