McCarthy, Cormac. Five Page Autograph Letter Signed ca. Early 1980s. (1933-) Five pages, 8.5" x 11", No place; no date. Cormac McCarthy is a novelist and screenwriter, of Southern Gothic, Western, and post-apocalyptic genres and is best known for his Border Trilogy of All the Pretty Horses (1992), The Crossing (1994), and Cities of the Plain (1998), along with Blood Meridian (1985), No Country for Old Men (2005), and The Road (2006) with several adapted into critically acclaimed and successful films.
In a letter addressed to an unknown friend, "Jerry", McCarthy writes about numerous novels and authors he has been enjoying and offers book suggestions to his friend. McCarthy moved to El Paso in 1976 and makes a reference to working in the Southwest, plus the novels he mentions in the letter were published 1979-1980s. It is likely the letter was written in the early 1980s.
Throughout the letter, McCarthy talks about various South American novelists (not a fan of "100 Years of Solitude") and even makes some reading suggestions to his friend which include "The Pine Barrens" and "Coming into the Country" both by John McPhee, The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe and The White Album by Joan Didion. He closes with "All The Best, Cormac."
Pages are stapled together in top left corner and save for minor edge toning, in excellent condition. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP

Christie, Agatha. Ten Little ******* First Edition Crime Club Publication & Dust Jacket. (1890-1976) Rare, original true First Edition with copyright 1939 by Collins under their The Crime Club Detective series. The repellent, racist title was taken from a minstrel song and for the American version released in 1940 was re-titled And Then There Were None the last five words of the song. The dust jacket illustrated by Stephen Bellman, is original but has been exceptionally well restored to address paper loss at top and bottom of entire width of jacket. Know the artwork is equally offensive as the title, as it depicts ten grotesque, stereotypical small black figures. The book itself with its bright orange cloth boards are in excellent condition, the printing exceptionally bold, the book, save for toning and light spotting on edges is in equally fine condition. Agatha Christie's work here is considered by many to be her finest, is the world's best-selling mystery and one of the best-selling books of all time. Between 1964-1986 a paperback re-titled again to Ten Little Indians also proved ill-advised once again by present moral standards. All considerations taken, this is an historic publication representing a different time that should be available for educational purposes in libraries and collections. Estimated Value $4,000 - UP

(1901-1990) An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy Being an Interpretation of the Secret Teachings concealed within the Rituals, Allegories and Mysteries of All Ages. King Solomon Edition inscribed and signed by Manly Hall "Best Wishes of Manly Hall" on the colophon page. This book was printed for Manly P. Hall by H. S. Crocker, San Francisco, 1928 and illustrated by J. Augustus Knapp. Limited/Numbered Edition. No. 67/550, Elephant Folio (12½" x 19" tall). A monumental, compelling work by Canadian author Hall who was only 27 when he published this work. Stunning volume with 48 remarkable color plates of mythical beasts rising out of the sea, angelic beings, ancestral civilizations and when taken all together is commonly referred to as "The Secret Teachings of All Ages". Book is in very good to fine-minus condition. Wooden slip cover has fraying and staining on the cloth and paper that originally wrapped it. But the cover did its job as the book itself has only very minor issues. There are bumps and scuffs to the spine likely occurring when sleeved in box. But the brown paper and leather that cover the boards are in wonderful condition and the pages of the book itself clean, without marks or a book plate. In very collectible condition. Again, a magical publication that intrigues and worthy of study. Book sleeved in slip cover weighs almost 15 pounds.

Manly P. Hall was well known and highly respected by brothers Harold and Marshall and both often remarked that Hall was the most brilliant man of his era.
