Homer, Winslow -- ALS Re Sending Art For an Exhibition (1836-1910) American landscape painter and printmaker, preeminent in 19th century American art. Autograph letter signed, one page, 9¾x6¼", n.p. Dec. 30, 1897. To Mr. [Thomas B.] Clarke, an art collector from New York City, letting him know that Homer has asked Mr. Beatley and Badworth & Sons "to forward my picture in time for your exhibit." With two holograph corrections. Clarke held an exhibit at the Union League Club in March 1898 featuring works by Homer and George Inness. Fine. Estimated Value $800 - UP

Fine collection of celebrated painters, a sculptor, and a a great American writer. 1.) Beautiful color museum post card of William de Kooning in front of one his paintings signed in white border 4½ x 6". 2.) Bold signature on 3 x 5 card by Robert Matherwell, inscribed "Cordially yours" dated 1964. 3.) Beloved caricaturist Al Hirschfeld has autographed TWO 3 x 5" card in his inimitable print style dated 4/8/94. 4.) ALS by Lawrence Alma-Tadema (voluptuously decadent, magnificent works centered on the Roman Empire) dated 1905 thanking a woman in allowing his works to open an Exhibition. 5.) Lorado Taft autograph on his Midway Studios, Chicago letter head 8½ x 5½" inscribed "Cordially Yours" signed and dated April 11, 1927. 6.) Henri Fantine -Latour French painter of exquisitely detailed still lifes. 7.) Sir Luke Fildes artist and book illustrator, beautiful signature on his personalized note paper and a cordial note dated Jan. 1896 8.) Check signed by James Fenimore Cooper dated Dec. 12, 1836. 9.) William Russell Flint Note signed dated 1929 as well as his signing a B&W picture card of one of his more erotic works. 10.) Also included are autographs by American painters Will Barnett, George P. Healy, Maurice Prendergast, Raphael Soyer and Eric Sloane. Estimated Value $500 - UP

Nadar - Gaspar-Félix Tournachon, Rare Autograph Letter Signed by 19th Century Balloonist and Celebrated Photographer (1820-1910) Known by the pseudonym Nadar, Tournachon was a French photographer, caricaturist, journalist, novelist, balloonist, and early proponent of flight. In 1858 he became the first person to take aerial photographs. In his lifetime he became a sensation in France when he had Eugend Godard construct "Le Geant" one of the largest hot air balloons of the time which inspired Jules Verne to write "Five Weeks in a Balloon". Nadar also photographed brilliantly some of the most celebrated notables, politicians, artists, stage actors and writers in France including Balzac, Sarah Bernhardt, Franz Lizt, Dumas and Émile Zola. Nadar writes on a monogrammed note card to a friend for intervening on his behalf with a Mme. Ballrec and profusely expresses his gratitude and kindness and signs as Nadar. One page, 8 x 5¼" and in excellent condition. Estimated Value $400 - UP
