Lot 427
N-6 R1 PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved. Choice glossy light olive and chocolate. Mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has outstanding eye appeal. Looks mint state but there is a touch of rub on the highest points of the devices. A thin, very light nick close off the chin can help identify this cent. E-MDS, die state a late. The fine diagonal die lines from the dentils over TE in STATES and ER in AMERICA are weak but still visible. A nice cent. Our grade is AU55. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 7 finer: 1 in 58+, 1 in 62, 3 in 63, 1 in 64, 1 in 66+. PCGS #35806. Estimated Value $350 - UP

N-2 R1 Small Date PCGS AU Detail Altered Surface. Frosty medium steel brown and chocolate. Nearly flawless; a tiny planchet lamination on the rim over the first S in STATES is the only notable mark, and it is trivial. A cent with choice mint state eye appeal but there is a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. The PCGS assessment of "Altered Surface" is confusing. MDS, die state b. The die lines under the date are dull but visible. Our grade is AU55. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #405815. Estimated Value $250 - UP

N-12 R1 Petite Head, Sm Ltrs PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light olive and steel brown with generous traces of mint red remaining visible on both sides. The only defect is a bit of darker olive planchet slag in the field above star 1 (as struck). Otherwise this cent is satiny and choice. Very rare terminal die state, die state f, with a series of rim cud breaks from below the end of the wreath ribbon clockwise to over the left edge of the E in UNITED. The cuds are not strong but the margins at both ends are clear. Our grade is MS60. Finest known of this die state in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 65. PCGS #405833. Estimated Value $750 - UP

N-4 R2 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Glossy medium steel brown with light reddish steel faded down from mint color in protected areas. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. The only defects area bit of extremely fine carbon in the dentils at star 4 and some faint hairlines in the fields thanks to a too-vigorous brushing. M-LDS, die state c, with narrow but clearly defined rim cud breaks at stars 4 & 5. Our grade is MS60. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #397728. Pop 2; 5 graded higher at PCGS for the variety, 2 in MSBN, 3 in MSRB. Estimated Value $400 - UP

N-8 R1 PCGS UNC Detail Cleaned. Very attractive lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown, what old-timers lovingly refer to as a "greenie" rather than "Cleaned." This cent is choice except for a light scuff that barely breaks the frost in the field off the tip of the nose. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The fields are not flowlined and the fine die lines at NITED are clear. Our grade is MS60. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #397761. Estimated Value $350 - UP

N-4 R1 Repunched Date NGC graded MS63 Brown. Frosty olive and bluish steel brown with mellowed mint red covering about 15% of both sides. Sharply struck and it looks choice to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals extremely fine planchet striations on both sides (as struck). The only striations visible to the unaided eye are a couple near the dentils left of stars 4 & 5. Otherwise this cent essentially is flawless. M-LDS, die state c. The fine die cracks at OF and MER are present but the rim cud on the obverse has not formed. The repunching on the date is clearly visible on all 4 digits. Our grade is MS60. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Estimated Value $375 - UP
