Lot 1443
1854 Kellogg & Co. (San Francisco) $20 Gold. NGC graded AU-58. These were struck in the early years of the Gold Rush in San Francisco. Across Liberty's headband, it states the private minters company name of KELLOGG&CO instead of LIBERTY as seen on comparable United States double eagles. The reverse too is similar to the regular issue US $20s, but here the legend states SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. Bathed in classic orange-gold color throughout, frosty and nice. The surfaces are satin smooth and display few nicks from brief circulation. An historic and popular example of this sought after Territorial issue. Light golden toning. Pop 46; 26 finer at NGC. Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000
