Lot 1333
1805. PCGS graded AU-53. The holder is scratched as is often the case when these PCGS get to over 25 years old or so, depending on how they are handled. The coin inside is outstanding though, with rich coppery gold color, a bold strike and splendid surfaces. This is one of the toughest type coins to find nice, as so few survived of the Capped Bust, Heraldic Eagle design. Reflective fields. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Only 1,781 struck, with 100 to 150 examples estimated to have survived according to PCGS Pop Report (PCGS # 7653) Estimated Value $12,500 - UP

Lot 1334
1807 BD-1, Rarity 3. PCGS graded AU-58. Mostly untoned with bright orange-gold color throughout and most of the luster intact. The surfaces are clean and pleasing, with no heavy bag or handling marks. There is just a hint of adjustment marks on the upper left obverse rim and on the reverse. Remarkably the reverse die was used to strike both 1805 and 1807 quarter eagles and silver dimes, as the designs are the same and the size identical. These quarter eagles are all quite rare as they were struck in tiny numbers, and from that original issue. Here is one of the nicer ones. Only 6,812 struck, with 250 to 350 examples estimated to have survived according to PCGS Pop Report. Pop 22; 31 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7656) Estimated Value $19,000 - 20,000

1807. Bust Right. PCGS graded AU Details, Altered Surface. This piece offers full definition and lovely even orange-gold color throughout. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are free of any detracting marks. Perhaps the surfaces were improved in some modest fashion in the past, but this is still a nice looking coin. Only 32,488 struck. PCGS label mistakenly indicated this as a "$5", and thus the coin was assigned with a wrong PCGS Number (should be #7656 instead of #8092). Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000

Lot 1336
1830. PCGS graded AU-53. Nice even toning of classic orange gold with frosty luster in the fields and a bold stirke on all of Liberty's curls and the eagle's wings. A rare type coin which suffered nearly complete melting of the entire issue, but a few did survive and this is one of those lucky coins. A classic type coin rarity that is seldom offered. Only 4,540 struck, with 80 to 120 examples estimated to have survived according to PCGS Pop Report. Pop 4; 65 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7670) Estimated Value $9,000 - UP

Lot 1337
1831. BD-1, High Rarity 6. NGC graded AU-58. Popular type coin of which about 50 to 100 exist for the date. The vast majority of the quarter eagles struck were melted as gold became of higher value than that stated on the coins. Hence these were gathered up and melted for the profit. This one shows a bold strike, nice surfaces with attractive yellow gold color. Free of detractions and a rare and desirable issue in any grade. A nice untoned example. Only 4,520 struck. Pop 12; 41 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7671) Estimated Value $13,000 - 14,000

Lot 1338
1834. No motto. PCGS graded AU-58. Nicely toned. Reflective fields on both sides which is present as this coin received so little wear. During 1834 the Mint was finally authorized to reduce the gold content of its gold coinage, this was needed as the $5 and $2.50 coins were being melted for a profit over their face value. Hence most of the old tenor coins (struck in early 1834 and prior) suffered considerable losses due to this melting of our coinage. After authorization the Mint employed a lower weight standard on the $2.50 and $5 gold coins and the melting of these slightly lighter gold coins stopped, and these stayed in circulation Here is a very nice example of the new style with pleasing copper gold color and ample luster. An important and popular type coin (PCGS # 7692) Estimated Value $1,250 - 1,300

1846-O. PCGS graded MS-61. Mostly untoned with some luster visible in the fields. The strike is fairly sharp with just a touch of softness on the upper curl atop Liberty's ear. The surfaces show a few shallow and widely scattered bag marks as expected for the grade. This is a tough condition rarity at this lofty grade and as such a coin that would make an excellent purchase for the advanced New Orleans specialist. Only 62,000 struck, and this piece is one of the very finest around. Pop 12; 8 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7743) Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500

1850-C. NGC graded MS-61. Untoned and better than average strike. This example shows the expected diagnostic small lump on the ball of the 5. Bold die clashing is noted in the fields, and minor scattered handling marks are present, likely from a brief time in mint bags. The C mintmark is almost comically high, wedged up into the arrow feathers and claws of the eagle. Only 9,148 struck, and this is one of the finest certified to date. Pop 10; 4 finer, 1 in 61+, 1 in 62, 2 in 63. (PCGS # 7756) Estimated Value $8,500 - 9,000

1852-O. PCGS graded MS-61. CAC. PQ. A nicely struck "O" Mint issue with beautiful reverse luster while the obverse shows a more satiny appearance. 1905. NGC graded Proof 64 Cameo. Nice light golden toning. A rare, low mintage Proof which is on the cusp of the gem grade, and a gorgeous coin to behold. The highly reflective fields fall away from the frosted devices. These early Proof gold coins are truly the caviar of numismatics and are always a welcome addition to any advanced collection. Only 144 struck. Pop 2; 12 finer at NGC for Proof Cameo. (PCGS # 87931) Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500

1910. PCGS graded Proof 66. CAC. PQ. Sure looks better than the assigned grade. Only 682 struck, and this number is believed to by an error as approximately 130-150 pieces exist today, so the mintage was likely about 200 pieces that were released. Furthermore, this date was struck in the much brighter Roman Finish style, so the coins are more of a mustard hue in brightness, like a sunflower. In prior years from 1908-1911 the gold proofs were struck in a darker khaki finish, that proved unpopular with collectors at the time. Famed sculptor Bella Lyon Pratt designed this new incuse style for the quarter eagle and half eagle in 1908. They were a whole new concept in coinage, and like anything new found both favor and fault within the populace. Today they are highly sought after and represent the hopes and dreams of the new 20th Century that was unfolding in this land. The few proofs struck are the most sought after, and with mintages of 100 to 200 pieces, there are not many to go around. Add to this the high gem quality and CAC approval, and you have one of the nicest around today to represent this classic Roman Finish style. Pop 11; 5 finer, 3 in 66+, 1 in 67, 1 in 67+. (PCGS # 7959) Estimated Value $30,000 - UP
